Plot. The Penguins of Madagascar is a spin-off of the Madagascar films. The series follows the adventures of four penguins: Skipper, Kowalski, Private, and Rico, who perform various commando-like missions to protect their home in the Central Park Zoo.
Skipper is one of the main protagonists of the Madagascar franchise. He is the leader of the penguins and brother of Rico and Kowalski and adopted older brother of Private. Skipper was born in the frozen tundra of Antarctica with his brothers, Kowalski and Rico.
Rico has two scars across the left side of his beak and mowhawk feathers. However, it is unknown how he had acquired them. His beak is strong enough to snap off a padlock in "Untouchable." As seen in "I Was A Penguin Zombie," Rico freaks out whenever Skipper is gone for too long.
Private's personality is incredibly naïve and optimistic, and he seems to be on the least equal footing with the other penguins due to his childlike nature. Private is aptly named, as a private is a soldier of the lowest military rank, serving under a higher commander (Skipper).
Skipper is the leader of the quartet, often giving out orders and his brothers always follow him, no matter what (except the time in "I Was a Zombie Penguin when they thought he was a zombie) . He is implied to be the oldest of them.
Kowalski is nerdy but helpful in the worst situations. He is also highly sensitive. He is usually loved by more than one person. He claimed a truck beautiful before Skipper slapped him.
Private is characterized by his bulging eyes that occasionally look different ways as seen on promotional images, and he speaks with a squeaky British accent. In the films, Private is voiced by Christopher Knights, and in the TV series, he is voiced by James Patrick Stuart.
Though Kowalski is the smartest of the penguins, he lacks the physical endurance of the other penguins, tiring more easily as seen in A Kipper for Skipper. He's convinced that intellect trumps brute force, which brings him into disagreements with Rico, the muscle of the team.
Rather than psychopathy, Rico shows more signs of Autism and Downs Syndrome. These are not just the expected low intelligence and poor verbal skills, but also his poor social skills and complete lack of impulse control.
It is revealed in the episode "Needle Point" that he is afraid of going to the dentist. Bennett replaces Chris Miller from the movies. Rico (voiced by John DiMaggio) is the team's weapons and explosives specialist, who mainly communicates through grunts and squeals, but sometimes he can speak rather normally.

Hula Girl. Despite not being a real person, Skipper falls in love with her in Madly Madagascar Madagascar and also in the Penguins of Madagascar movie.
DreamWorks officially announced Madagascar 4 in 2014, but it was later canceled as part of the studio's release restructuring. Despite the cancelation, DreamWorks has continued to produce small-screen adaptations of the franchise, including a TV series and a spin-off movie.
It began with the 2005 film Madagascar, the 2008 sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and the third film Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted in 2012. A spin-off film featuring the penguins, titled Penguins of Madagascar, was released in 2014.
John Malkovich as Dave / Dr. Octavius Brine, a villainous and disgruntled Giant Pacific octopus who has a human scientist disguise and has a one-sided grudge against Adélie penguins. He wants revenge on all Adélie penguins across the Earth for being upstaged by them at international zoos.
Lovelace is the tritagonist of the 2006 film Happy Feet and a supporting character of its 2011 sequel Happy Feet Two. He is a Rockhopper Penguin who has a high social status due to the amount of Lovestones in his pile. He is also the narrator of the films.

Bada is a grey gorilla. He lives with Bing in the Gorilla Habitat inside the zoo. He is strong, agile, and seems to be smarter than Bing. He served as a guard for Maurice in Kingdom Come and King Julien on multiple occasions.
The Rat King is a mutated sewer rat who lives in the sewer and is the leader of many other sewer and a major antagonist in The Penguins of Madagascar. He was voiced by Diedrich Bader.
