Ezra, seeing Maul's feet on the other side of a starfighter, leaps over it and attacks a rebel trooper he sees as Maul. Before Ezra can kill the false "Maul," Sabine and Kanan intervene and force him away. Ezra attempts to strike Maul with his green lightsaber, but Kanan uses the Force to restrain Ezra's arms.
Having narrowed our focus there, we can assume Darth Maul's cry of “He lives!” refers to Obi-Wan, who is, at this point in Star Wars history, secretly on the desert planet, watching over young Luke Skywalker from a distance. Since Obi-Wan lives, so does Maul's hope of revenge against him.
Ezra and Maul first met each other in the abandoned Sith Temple on Malachor during "Twilight of the Apprentice." It was when Ezra was separated from his companions Kanan Jarrus and Ahsoka Tano due to a cave-in that Ezra met the former Sith Lord, Darth Maul.

Training in the ways of the Force under the mentorship of Kanan Jarrus, Ezra became a Jedi Padawan and a part of the emerging rebellion. He also grew close to Hera Syndulla, Zeb, Chopper, and Sabine Wren, who was like a sister in his new found family.

Maul taught Ezra the Sith Code and encouraged him to embrace the dark side. In "The Holocrons of Fate," Ezra and Maul formed a Force bond with each other after they combined the Sith and the Jedi Holocrons they had.
