During the Imperial Era, the Mandalorian weapons expert and rebel Sabine Wren retrieved the Darksaber from the Nightsister lair on Dathomir. At the urging of Mandalorian Protector Fenn Rau and her fellow Spectres, Sabine agreed to undergo training with the Darksaber under the tutelage of Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus.
Sabine came across the Darksaber on Dathomir after she and Kanan went on a mission to rescue Ezra Bridger from Darth Maul. The former Sith Lord had kept the weapon with a collection of antiques on the planet of the Nightsisters after he ruled Mandalore with the blade near the end of the Clone Wars.
After Sabine and House Wren reiterated their support, Bo-Katan Kryze accepted the Darksaber to uphold the legacy of her sister, Clan Kryze, and Mandalore itself. That being said, Bo-Katan did not hold the weapon for long due to the actions of the nefarious Galactic Empire.

Is Moff Gideon a Sith?
At the time of The Mandalorian story, it is pretty clear that Moff Gideon is not a Sith Lord even though he has the Darksaber in his possession nor does he have any links to the Jedi. Moff Gideon is nothing more than one of the Empire's existing bad guys who officially worked for the Imperial Security Bureau.
Dave Filoni, a Lucasfilm creative, explains that the Darksaber is not necessarily more powerful than a typical lightsaber and its old age could make it less powerful. The main difference between the Darksaber and lightsaber is its design, with the flat blade of energy being a unique "Mandalorian twist."
Several consider Sabine and Ezra as a romantic couple while others consider it strictly platonic. Though they were confirmed to have a sibling dynamic, there are several aspects that they have romantic feelings for another.
Bo-Katan Willingly Receives the Darksaber from Sabine
(As it turns out, this meeting wasn't Sabine's only tie to Bo-Katan. Sabine's mother, Ursa Wren [Sharmila Devar], was a former member of Bo-Katan's group the Nite Owls, and she fought during the Siege of Mandalore.)
Sabine heard Ezra's voice calling to her in a dream in Ahsoka episode 1. The Great Mothers, powerful Nightsister witches, may have sensed Sabine's connection to Ezra and manipulated her emotions to ensure she would betray Ahsoka and help Thrawn.
Ahsoka's white lightsabers first appeared in the TV episode "Fire Across the Galaxy", the season one finale for Star Wars Rebels. According to Dave Filoni, one of the show's creators, the lightsaber blades are white to reflect her non-affiliation with the Jedi or Sith.
Maul wielded the Darksaber on Dathomir. After Maul returned to Dathomir to help Mother Talzin regain her physical form, Maul was confronted by Sidious and Grievous at the Nightbrothers' village. He, along with Talzin, who had possessed Dooku, fought Sidious and Grievous.
By Mandalorian tradition, the Darksaber can only be claimed by someone who won it in combat. Bo-Katan simply picked up the saber, meaning that she has no right to it according to creed.
In a galaxy filled with lightsabers of various colours, the Darksaber stands out as the rarest lightsaber colour, shrouded in mystery and steeped in history. Created by the first Mandalorian Jedi, it has passed through the hands of warriors, terrorists, and heroes, leaving an indelible mark on the Star Wars universe.
The crossguard blades allow Ren's saber to operate safely – his weapon is constructed around a dangerously flawed kyber crystal, which would be overloaded if not for the lateral plasma vents that create the quillons.

In the final episode of Rebels Recon, Dave Filoni explained that the reason why Ezra and Sabine didn't get together at the point of the finale during the series was because he felt that it was more important to show that two people can have a strong connection, without being in a relationship.
The wedding of Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger took place in Keldabe nearly two months after the Battle of Endor with the pursuit taking place from early morning in the Adenla Market to nightfall at Dal'voris Park. The two then embarked on a honeymoon across Mandalore for the next few months.
Trivia. Sabine is at least two years older than Ezra. Throughout the show they are fourteen and sixteen, fifteen and seventeen, seventeen and nineteen, nineteen and twenty one. Several consider Sabine and Ezra as a romantic couple while others consider it strictly platonic.
Ezra and Sabine were very close friends due to being the youngest members of the Ghost crew. Because of his younger age, Sabine acts as an older sister to Ezra, due to the fact that she has her own younger brother and is fiercely protective of him.
For my wife and I, one of the hardest things to connect with in these first two episodes, was the Sabine/Ahsoka relationship. We're presented with two people who have broken up - not romantically, but as friends, as master/apprentice, etc - and it feels like something we should care about.
The Darksaber may be a fearsome weapon, but it cannot cut through beskar, which is the most resilient metal in the Star Wars universe and also Mandalorian-made. It is currently unknown if the Darksaber hilt is imbued with beskar, which would make it even more mighty in the eyes of the Mandalorians.
To be clear, Grogu is not a younger version of Yoda since "The Mandalorian" is set after "Return of the Jedi," in which Yoda (played by Frank Oz) died. They are, however, of the same species — but that species has not yet been revealed. There are more similarities between Yoda and Grogu than just looks.
