Chapter 10 of Lord of the Flies opens with Ralph and Piggy waking up the morning after the gruesome events of the night before and talking on the shore. They are sore, bruised, and ashamed about what happened, namely, the fact that Simon is dead.

Ralph dives under the surface, and Piggy explains that he can't swim due to his asthma. Ralph mimics his asthma and says his father taught him how to swim. He mentions that he is in the Navy and will soon come to rescue him and the others. He asks Piggy about his father and replies that he is dead.
Only two named characters do not survive, Piggy and Simon. It is implied that a third unnamed boy died in the forest fire earlier on in the novel. So, of the seven main characters, five survive: Ralph, Jack, Sam, Eric, and Roger.
