Lucius Verus II was the son of Lucilla and Lucius Verus (Marcus Aurelius' co-ruler). He had two sisters: Aurelia Lucilla and Lucilla Plautia and a little brother named Pompeianus from his mother's second marriage.
By September 2003, Ridley Scott announced that the script was completed, while confirming that the story would primarily center around the secret son of Maximus being Lucius. Ridley Scott returns to direct Gladiator II after two decades since the original.
She was an elder sister to later Emperor Commodus. Lucilla did have a past romance with Maximus, when they were both young and had not yet married. The relationship ended, however, and Maximus married and had a son, while Lucilla married, had a son and later was widowed.

What mistake did Lucius make?
Lucius Malfoy's failure at the Department of Mysteries combined with accidentally destroying part of Voldemort's soul with the diary of Tom Riddle resulted in his loss of any standing with the Dark Lord. Some believed that he was safer in Azkaban than being free. Lucius was sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban.
In fact, he was in Lord Voldemort's closest circle as a Death Eater. He despised Muggles, Muggle-borns, those he saw as blood traitors and tried to instil those values in his family. Those beliefs certainly fed his ego, as he thought himself to be superior to those who did not share his background.
In the same sequence, Maximus tells a mocking Quintus "dirt cleans off a lot easier than blood." Rubbing and smelling the dirt before each fight connects Maximus to his home and his family. Moreover, the ritual pushes Maximus through each deadly conflict.
Soon after the battle, the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius was murdered by his own son and successor Commodus. Maximus realized this and declined to help Commodus leading the new Emperor to order Quintus to arrest and execute Maximus. Quintus had no choice but to obey and arrested Maximus telling him to not resist.
After Maximus refused to swear fealty to Commodus, he orders his family to be killed and even taunts Maximus over their gruesome deaths later on; his wife was gangraped by his soldiers and his son was crucified and dragged by horses. He even taunts Maximus over their gruesome deaths and how they screamed during them.
Maximus is a general in the professional Roman army (SPQR), but he was Spanish by birth. The Legions were open to any Roman citizen, not just native-born Romans. Since Spain was a Roman province at the time, it's very likely that Maximus was a Roman citizen as well as Spanish native.
In the Best Picture-winning film, Maximus became enslaved and trained as a gladiator in ancient Rome. In the meantime, Commodus made incestuous advances toward Lucilla, who tolerated this to protect her son.
In the first film, Crowe's Maximus baited Commodus into the colosseum arena and killed him, and then died from wounds he sustained in the battle. Given that they both made their way to the afterlife, it's highly unlikely they'd appear in this one, at least alive. Crowe has made it sound like he's not involved yet.
Cicero was the servant of Roman General Maximus Meridius and his friend. He was later betrayed by Lucilla and was killed as a result. He was portrayed by Tommy Flanagan in the 2000 film Gladiator.

She was mentioned on the fragmentary, mid-ninth century C.E. Latin inscription of the Pillar of Eliseg near Valle Crucis Abbey, Denbighshire, Wales.

A character named Quintus played by Tomas Arana appears in the movie Gladiator released in 2000 and is loosely based on Quintus Aemilius Laetus. Quintus serves under Maximus in the opening battle scene. He later sides with Commodus and arrests Maximus. Quintus appears later as the commander of the Praetorian Guard.
