Happy Feet Synopsis Mumble is the only Emperor penguin chick in Antarctica who can't sing. His friend Gloria (voiced by Brittany Murphy) has a glorious voice, but Mumble can never hope to attract a mate without a 'heart song', the personal tune that all Emperor penguins must have.
After escaping from a leopard seal attack, Mumble befriends five Adelie penguins named Ramón, Nestor, Lombardo, Rinaldo and Raul, known collectively as "the Amigos", who embrace Mumble's dance moves and assimilate him into their group.
In the sequel, Mumble is married with Gloria and has a son named Erik. He is first seen at the Opening Medley when he was tap dancing with his son. Then, Gloria was dancing and coming to Mumble and he faced the other way. He tap dances to Gloria as the emperor penguins continue dancing.
According to Wikipedia, Mumble is stuck permanently in his baby feathers because of being dropped by Memphis as an egg. I'm not sure that's supported by the film, which makes a point of implying that baby feathers are shed once the penguin meets the requirements for sexual maturity, which was singing one's heartsong.
And it's exactly what brings Norma Jean and Memphis together and leads them to give birth to a cute, blue-eyed little guy they call Mumble. But there's a problem. Against all penguin logic, their little fuzzball child can't carry a tune in a bucket.
Cast. Elijah Wood as Mumble, husband of Gloria and father of Erik. Robin Williams as Ramón and Lovelace, Mumble's two friends. Ramón is a laid-back and comical Adélie penguin who speaks in a thick Spanish accent and Lovelace is a spiritual rockhopper penguin and Sven's partner.
Adding to the film's flaws, Mumble's parents (played by Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman) have completely disappeared. And the character of Gloria feels substantially different since Brittany Murphy, the original voice actress, died.
Mumble is a male emperor penguin and the main protagonist in the Happy Feet franchise. He is the only emperor penguin who can't sing (although there is a chance that another penguin will be born unable to sing) but he can do a "tap-dance" called "Happy Feet".
The film was inspired in part by the BBC's 1993 nature series about Antarctica ( Life in the Freezer ) and it sticks close to biological reality about the life cycle of the Emperor penguin, the largest species of penguin and the only one that breeds in winter in Antarctica.
Gloria is the deuteragonist of Happy Feet and a major character of Happy Feet Two. She is a female emperor penguin who is known as one of the best female singers. She is the daughter of Maurice and Michelle, the wife of Mumble, and the mother of Erik.
During surviving the storm, Memphis drops the egg on accident which makes Mumble different to the others not able to sing like the other penguins to find true love but can dance which other penguins said was not a real penguin.
Set in the cold land of Antarctica, the film follows Mumble (Wood), an emperor penguin who is able to tap dance brilliantly despite lacking the ability to sing a heartsong to attract a soulmate.
Before the first Happy Feet movie was released, Mumble was rumored to lose his juvenile feathers when he jumped off the ice cliff to stop the aliens from taking the fish. However, this got scrapped before the final cut of the film.
He knows he can dance better than any penguin alive, but as his father Memphis (voiced by Hugh Jackman) tells him, dancing 'just ain't penguin'. Worse, Mumble (voiced by Elijah Wood) is banished by the elders, who think his dancing is responsible for their shortage of fish.
Lovelace definitely isn't gay. But Mumble does demonstrate Autistic qualities, and other penguins demonstrate the current reactions to the Autistic: His parents send him to a special teacher only to find that, while she does bring out his talent, it's not the talent they or she wanted.
"The prefrontal cortex and the amygdala [responsible for the expression of emotions] are still developing during the teenage years and this means they often have heightened emotional responses and their moods can change quickly, which they find difficult to manage, so mumbling might be part of that," says Dr von Lob.
To mumble is to talk quietly and indistinctly. When people speak in a mumble, it's hard to understand them. Mumbling is a way of speaking that's a little like whispering. Like whispering, mumbling is usually done with a low voice.
