The following day, 1 November, Sirius cornered Peter on a street in London, intending to kill Peter for his betrayal. However, Peter was too quick and set off a Blasting Curse, killing twelve innocent Muggles and creating a diversion, allowing Pettigrew to cut off one of his fingers, take on his rat form, and escape.

How did Sirius Black know Peter Pettigrew was alive?
In 1993, Sirius Black escaped from Azkaban after seeing a picture of Pettigrew's rat form in a Daily Prophet article about the Weasley family's trip to Egypt.
Why did everyone think Sirius betrayed the Potters?
Dumbledore, Remus, and everyone in on the plan was under the impression that Sirius was the secret keeper. The only possible way Voldemort could've accessed the Potters in order to kill them was if the secret keeper had revealed the information willingly, or else been coerced into doing so.
Werewolves might be dangerous to humans, but they don't attack other animals; so Lupin's friends found a way to stay together as a kind of pack. James's Animagus form was that of a stag, which earned him his nickname, Prongs.
Pettigrew mixed up a potion for Voldemort using unicorn blood and the venom of Nagini. With this potion, they were able to create a new body for Lord Voldemort to finally return to. However, this body was not what Voldemort needed to return to his fearful leadership form. Instead, it was that of a scaly, hairless baby.
Enid Pettigrew (b. 1962) is a half-blood witch, the daughter to Audrey Pettigrew and the younger sister to Peter Pettigrew. She attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Hufflepuff house from 1973 to 1980.
There are hundreds of students in Hogwarts, plus ghosts, teachers, House Elves, and Peeves. Black was able to maintain his sanity due to his knowledge of his innocence, a non-happy thought that the Dementors could not take. It was only this that allowed him to maintain his powers to transform, and what made the escape possible.
Peter was motivated to change sides when Voldemort seemed to be the clear winner of the war, but he was winning because of the information Peter supplied as a double agent. If he never changed sides, it's possible the Dark Lord would have lost much earlier than he did.
During a frenzied duel with Bellatrix, Sirius taunts her for failing to harm him. Bellatrix strikes Sirius with a curse, sending him backwards into the veil and to his death. Overcome with grief and rage, Harry tries – and fails – to get revenge on Bellatrix, only to be interrupted by Voldemort's arrival.
The most famous of these members, of course, was Harry's godfather Sirius Black, who barely made it to adulthood before he was disowned by the family for rejecting the Blacks' pure-blood ideals and running away from home.
Notably, Voldemort appeared to be entirely unaware of this split, as he later created a seventh Horcrux in his quest to have six, and continued to target Harry Potter despite him now holding part of Voldemort's own soul.
The prevailing theory has been that Voldemort gradually lost his nose (and humanity) throughout his life due to his exclusive use of Dark Magic. The more Dark Magic he tapped into, the less human he became both figuratively and literally. This was only amplified as he split his soul to create the Horcruxes.
J. K. Rowling has stated that she would fancy an otter — her favourite animal — as her Animagus form, though if she actually transformed, she suspects she might be "a guinea pig or something, which would be quite embarrassing."
McGonagall is a registered Animagus and can transform herself into a tabby cat at will. McGonagall was always held in high respect by her peers and students at Hogwarts and commanded a position second only to Dumbledore.
Draco, who implies that he is aware of how Sirius Black was supposedly involved in the deaths of Harry's parents, also taunts Harry about the impending threat of Black: "If it was me, I'd want revenge. I'd hunt him down myself."
Its not until lupin discovered that Peter P (wormtail) was still alive that Sirius was innocent and he did not portray the potters or kill wormtail. Therefore Mr weasley thought all along Sirius had the potters killed and though he was out to kill harry because he was the last potter and also he was his grandfather.
