In Scream 4, a killer appears when Sidney returns to Woodsboro on the fifteenth anniversary of the original killings. This killer is revealed to be Sidney's cousin Jill Roberts (Emma Roberts), with horror film fan Charlie Walker (Rory Culkin) serving as her accomplice.
She rises to hero status by the end and is left near-fatally wounded. Being the only unconfirmed victim of the Woodsboro Remake, Kirby was confirmed alive through a photographic cameo in the fifth entry, making her the sole teen survivor of the fourth film and a final girl.
Jill kills Trevor and betrays Charlie, stabbing him to death to pin him as Trevor's accomplice so she can be the sole survivor. She then stabs Sidney and injures herself to frame Trevor further. Dewey and the police arrive as Sidney and Jill are taken to the hospital.
In Scream 5, the killers are revealed as Richie Kirsch, Sam's boyfriend, and Amber Freeman, Tara's, best friend. The pair devised a plan to create their own "requel" and they were going to use Samantha Carpenter as their Ghostface and Tara Carpenter and her friends as the basis for their movie.

Scream 6 introduced five killers, the most in any Scream film, who were not working together. Their identities were revealed early on, breaking convention. Before Scream 7 went through a whole creative reset, Billy was expected to return in Scream 7 as there are many unanswered questions about Sam and her link to Billy. However, now that Barrera is no longer part of Scream 7, bringing Billy back wouldn't make sense as Sam was the one who had hallucinations of him.
