Mila Davis-Kent Brings Authenticity to Creed III as Film Incorporates ASL. The highly anticipated film, Creed III, has a new addition to its cast– Mila Davis-Kent. Davis-Kent, a deaf actress, represents the deaf community in her role as Amara Creed, the daughter of Adonis Creed in the film.
“Creed 3” has been making waves in the box offices, already grossing over $180 million worldwide in its first two weeks. The film is also making waves among the disability community as 10-year-old actress Mila Davis Kent is the first Black deaf actress to play a role in a major film.
Amara Creed is the daughter of the series' main character Adonis Creed, and while she hasn't had a huge role in prior films, Amara did get a slightly larger role in Creed III.
One of the characters that I really enjoyed watching was Bianca, whom we learned in the first movie is an aspiring singer who happens to have hereditary disorder that leads her to develop progressive hearing loss.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Amara inherited her mother's progressive hearing disorder and was born deaf. This diagnoses broke her parents' hearts, as Bianca lamented Amara would never appreciate her mother's love of music, and Adonis thought life was hard enough as it is.
In Creed III, Bianca and Michael B. Jordan's character Adonis 'Donnie' Creed are now parents to a deaf daughter named Amara, played by young deaf actress Mila Davis-Kent, meaning they both had to learn more ASL.
Portrayed by Tessa Thompson, Bianca suffers from progressive hearing loss and uses a hearing aid and there is no information about Bianca's upbringing or family life. She resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she meets Adonis Creed.
The last time we saw her in Creed II, she had given birth to a baby daughter named Amara, who was born deaf due to Bianca's hereditary hearing loss disorder. Creed III picks up several years later, and Amara is now a precocious young girl played by Mila Davis-Kent, who attends a special school for deaf children.
Actress Tessa Thompson, who portrays singer/songwriter Bianca in the film, was involved early with the film's preparation in order to write music for her character with Göransson. "We spent two weeks in Los Angeles in a studio basically writing from morning until night," said Thompson.
It is evident that Bianca's hearing loss may have progressed since the original movie ended: She is visibly wearing her hearing aid more frequently and sporadically communicates with Adonis — whom she calls “D” — in simple sign language.
Despite being the face of the Rocky franchise, Stallone chose not to appear in Creed III due to creative differences with producer Irwin Winkler as well as with Jordan, although he is still a producer on the film. According to Stallone, the film had a much darker tone that he didn't agree with.
The trilogy's final film is directed by Jordan, and compared to the first two films, Creed III shows a different side of Adonis Creed. He is now a husband to a hard of hearing Black woman and a father to a deaf daughter who uses ASL as a primary form of communication.
Expect violent fight scenes both in and out of the boxing ring as well as strong language (mostly "s--t"), drinking, and a bit of kissing and flirting between a married couple.
Music. Thompson is a singer-songwriter who previously collaborated with the Los Angeles–based indie electro soul group, Caught a Ghost. She also made significant contributions to the soundtracks of Creed and Creed II by co-writing and performing multiple songs with producer Moses Sumney.

While Creed II came out only five years ago, the third installment takes place seven years after the previous film. This places the characters in the year 2025, and based on Adonis' birthday, he is either 38 or 39, depending on what time of the year the film takes place.
One other character was a major part of the movie's franchise, Apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers. The characters are completely fictional, which means Creed is not based on a true story. In Coogler's movie, he wanted to give a tribute to his father, who is a big Rocky fan.
