The Master was the primary antagonist of the 1996 Doctor Who television movie. He was played by American actor Eric Roberts. In the prologue, the Master (portrayed briefly by Gordon Tipple) is executed by the Daleks as a punishment for his "evil crimes".
A childhood friend of the Doctor, the Master was driven insane after looking into the Untempered Schism on Gallifrey at the age of eight. Like the Doctor, he fled from the Time Lord's home planet in a stolen TARDIS.
The transformation isn't actually shown on-screen, but it's was confirmed that Simm's Master regenerated directly into Missy (the same incarnation that would go on to betray her previous incarnation in an endless cycle).
He is the Doctor's Moriarty: a renegade Time Lord who may be the hero's intellectual equal, but who is also his moral opposite. While the Doctor wants to explore the universe, the Master wants to own it. First played by Roger Delgado, he debuted in a 1971 episode called Terror of the Autons.
The Doctor's enemies. Daleks- The Daleks have been the enemies of the Timelords since day one. They were involved in the "Time War", where The Doctor was forced to kill all of the other Timelords and Daleks. Unfortunately, some Daleks have survived and continue to wreak havoc in the universe.
The Master and Missy aren't supposed to cross paths, and in doing so, it would result in Simm's Master losing any memories of the event going forward — which would mean that the eventual Missy wouldn't remember any of it.
This led Missy to find her loyalties torn between her promise to the Doctor and the lure of her former self. After initially betraying the Doctor and leaving him to face the Cybermen alone, Missy later stabs the Master to enact his regeneration while intending to come to the Doctor's aid.
It has been stated in various sources including by Russel T Davies, Julie Gardner and John Simm himself that the Master's hair is definitely blonde in this story. The explanation for why his hair was blonde was that he needed to alter his appearance since he looked like former Prime Minister Harold Saxon.
The Third Doctor and the Master have a specifically friendly relationship due to the Doctor's exile. Certainly they openly regard each other as tiresome, but there's also a shared bond that is played upon, that they are both advanced aliens on a relatively primitive planet.
Finally killed by the Ravenous, the Master was eventually restored to life for good on the instructions of the Time Lords, in preparation for a future conflict with the Daleks. The Master would once again regenerate, this time into an older body that tried to manipulate the conflict to suit his own goals.
We may never know for certain, but whatever its genesis, the outcome of this epic conflict was horrifying and only two Time Lords survived - the Doctor and the Master. With the latter's apparent death the Doctor is left to continue his travels with the lonely knowledge that he is the last 'child of Gallifrey'.
The Master survived after running out of regenerations because his future selves intervened at the last moment to use Artron's device on their predecessors's withered body and allow him to regenerate into a new incarnation, presumably Alex Macqueen's.
It's likely the Master's obsession stems from jealousy -- and possibly fear. The Master realizes the Doctor is his intellectual equal and perhaps the only being capable of comprehending him, yet he can't stand what he views as the Doctor's moral superiority. The Doctor has the notoriety he craves and wants to take.
Within the story, it's revealed that just before her TV death, Missy activated a forbidden piece of Time Lord technology known as an Elysium Field, granting herself a fresh regeneration cycle in the process – hey presto, The Master's unexplained evil return makes a lot more sense now!
Clara is the future child of the Doctor and River who's had her memory erased. The two Time Lords must be up to something on their nights away from River's prison cell.
Ultimately, Missy decided to join the Doctor but was killed by her former self before she could. Thus, she died redeemed but without hope, without witness, and without reward.
The latest incarnation of the Master had lost all love for the Doctor after he learned that he only existed because of her. Knowing that the whole foundation of Gallifrey was built on a lie, the Master enacted his ultimate revenge and savaged the planet that the Doctor had fought so hard to save.
The Master claims he burned Gallifrey as revenge for some dark secret the Time Lords were hiding. "They lied to us," The Master says. "The founding fathers of Gallifrey... everything we were told was a lie.
It was also used in several pitches for the Eighth Doctor TV projects which eventually ended up as the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie; there, the Master would have been Ulysses' son by his legitimate Gallifreyan spouse, while the Doctor was Ulysses' son with a human woman, making him and the Master half-brothers.
Truly, madly, deeply. To some, companion Rose Tyler was the greatest love of the Doctor's life. He seemed to have a closer bond with her than almost anyone he'd travelled with before, and as time went on it was increasingly clear that she was deeply in love with him.
Not as worldly wise or experienced but much smarter. I think The Master is smarter. It might be just a little bit or it could be substantially more. We see over and over again the Doctor is not just impressed but staggered at The Master's genius (while being horrified by their lack of morals).
