Even despite the atrocities that The Rise of Skywalker did with his character (which Star Wars fans like to pretend never happened), Emperor Sheev Palpatine, a.k.a. Darth Sidious is still one of the best movie villains of all time.
While acting innocent, he orchestrated the complete downfall of the Jedi. He also manipulated Anakin Skywalker, plotted the new uprising of the Sith, and programmed the clones to execute Order 66.
Palpatine was the man whose manipulations led to the downfall of the Jedi Order. He betrayed every ally without a qualm, seeing others as tools and then discarding them without a second thought. He even managed to conquer death itself, proving himself the ultimate Star Wars villain.
In the original trilogy, Palpatine is depicted as the evil Emperor of the Galactic Empire and the master of Darth Vader. The character has a larger role in the prequel trilogy, which chronicles his rise from senator to emperor.
Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, introduced as the main antagonist of the original 1977 Star Wars film (although he has less screen time than his iconic equal Darth Vader), in which he was played by Peter Cushing.

The one who ultimately put an end to Emperor Palpatine's reign was none other than Darth Vader himself. Yep, Anakin Skywalker, the chosen one, had a major role to play in this epic showdown. You see, Emperor Palpatine was a master manipulator, and he had Vader under his dark side grip for a long time.
Transference. Sidious used Plagueis' methods to transfer his consciousness to a new body after his first demise. During the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Sidious was killed by a redeemed Anakin Skywalker, who turned back to the light side of the Force and threw Sidious down a reactor shaft to save his son Luke Skywalker.
Through their interactions they also show signs of a growing attraction towards each other. Kylo became very fond of Rey, and at one point she even begins to refer to him as Ben, and he lets her do it.
Finally, Rey is Kylo Ren's aunt through Anakin Skywalker. This means that Kylo and Rey's romance is just as genetically awkward as Luke and Leia's kiss on Hoth was. Granted, neither pair knew they were related at the time, but that's no excuse.

Summary. Palpatine's true source of power comes from his intense hatred for everyone in the galaxy, which only fuels his strength. Not only that, but the more people hate Palpatine, the stronger he becomes as well, making inspiring hatred a crucial part of increasing his strength.
Palpatine, motivated by pride and a desire to see his homeworld become a part of the greater galaxy, sought to quietly undermine his father's political agenda during the 65 BBY election season. More importantly, however, it was the rift with his father that indirectly led to his future as a Sith.
Vader's Palpatine Betrayal Parallels His Fall to The Dark Side. Star Wars creator George Lucas has stated that the reason Palpatine couldn't anticipate Vader's betrayal in Return of the Jedi was that he can't truly understand the concept of love.
A year later, in 4 ABY, with his health rapidly declining, Yoda died of old age when Skywalker returned to see him. He became one with the Force, shortly before Luke redeemed his father Anakin, who fulfilled his destiny as the Chosen One by killing Sidious.
Instead, the theory suggests that Padmé died because Palpatine killed her. By taking a closer look at how Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader is intercut with Padmé's death, a clearer picture emerges of how Padmé's death was more likely a planned-out murder as opposed to an accidental tragedy.
Their battle was interrupted when Leia used the last of her strength to reach her son in the Force. While Kylo was distracted, Rey ran him through with his own lightsaber, leaving him mortally wounded.
