Who killed Dracula's wife in Hotel Transylvania?
It's never confirmed what happened, but it's strongly implied that Martha either died in the fire started by the humans or that someone had snuck in and attacked her. Contrary to the legend, Drac and Mavis survived, but, sadly, Martha perished. It is Drac's sad history that persuaded him to build Hotel Transylvania.
Worried about Johnny ruining the hotel, Dracula lies to him saying that there is a "monster real-estate law" which only lets monsters own the hotel and instead falsely announces the expansion of the hotel with an extra bathroom, disappointing Johnny, Mavis and the others in the process.

A third installment can be difficult to maintain the quality, and Hotel Transylvania 3 really struggled with keeping itself on target. The movie is cute, funny, and with an entertaining design, but it didn't have an engaging plot and reduce its characters to mere shambles with the exceptions of a few.
Even though the Hotel Transylvania series has never aimed to be anything more than appealing to kids, the fourth instalment falls short of that too. The jokes are silly but not funny, the story is simple but too predictable, and the animation lacks the inventiveness that Genndy Tartakovsky brought.
