Le Morte d'Arthur features the now-iconic scene where the two meet on foot as Arthur charges Mordred and runs a spear through him. With the last of his strength, Mordred impales himself even further to come within striking distance, and lands a mortal blow with his sword to King Arthur's head.
Despite his good nature, King Arthur was betrayed by his wife Guinevere and his best knight Lancelot. The distraction of Guinevere and Lancelot's relationship led Mordred, King Arthur's son, to take over the kingdom. In the end, King Arthur was killed by his son in a battle over the kingdom.

When Launcelot hears of the death of Arthur and Gawain, he comes to England in haste. He looks for the queen and finds her in a nunnery. For love of Guinevere as much as for remorse he takes on the habit of a priest. Guided by visions, he goes to Almesbury, where he finds Guinevere dead.
A popular version from the French prose cycles tells of Merlin being bewitched and forever sealed up or killed by his student, the Lady of the Lake, after falling in love with her. Other texts variously describe his retirement, at times supernatural, or death.
Answer and Explanation: In Arthurian legends, Excalibur is returned to the Lady of the Lake after King Arthur's death. When he is dying, Arthur tells one of his knights, often Bedivere, to throw the sword back into the lake. In most of the stories, the knight resists this command because the sword is so valuable.
In the Tavola Ritonda, Camelot is abandoned and falls to ruin after the death of Arthur. From Geoffrey's grand description of Caerleon, Camelot gains its impressive architecture, its many churches and the chivalry and courtesy of its inhabitants.
There are indeed many factors involved in the fall of Camelot, but selfishness would appear to be the most important. The Knights of the Round Table have sworn loyalty to their king, yet act in ways that betray that solemn oath, putting their selfish needs before their sacred duty.
