Ray and the others found the last remaining Legends, and attacked the Legion, but failed to take the Spear. The defeated team, decided to go back in time, to the moment they lost the Spear to stop Thawne. They went to 1916, where Thawne followed them, killing Ray.
While testing out a new function of his exosuit, Ray accidentally caused an explosion which shrunk him to a miniature size; stuck in this state and unable to call for help, he was presumed dead.
What happened to Ray Palmer at the end of season 3?
Did Ray just blow himself up? Don't worry, Ray (Brandon Routh) is alive and well. He's heading over to the upcoming Arrow/Flash spinoff, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and that explosion in the final moments of the show was him working on shrinking himself down to the size of an Atom.
Thankfully, the exit wasn't completely permanent. Routh has since returned as Ray Palmer for episodes of both The Flash and Legends (which celebrated its 100th episode last year with a big character reunion), alongside Ford, who returned as her character (and Ray's wife) Nora Darhk.
The end result was a happy one: Ray and Nora got married that very night with Damien's blessing. Of course, before they could get there, Pippa, the young girl who Nora was currently Fairy Godmother to, sent Damien and the Legends into the children's TV show Mr.

A love story between Oliver and Felicity took shape starting in Arrow season 2, culminating in a wedding in season 6. Nora Palmer (née Darhk) is a major antagonist turned anti-heroine in the Arrowverse series. She is the daughter of the late Damien Darhk and the late Ruvé Darhk and the wife of Dr Ray Palmer.
Palmer is exceptionally intelligent. He has a IQ of 140 and prior to acquiring his abilities, he had four PhDs under his belt. He is a world authority on physics, with other superheroes often consulting him for assistance with physics-related projects.
After Ra's death, Malcolm Merlyn succeeded him as the new leader of the League of Assassins, the next "Ra's al Ghul", however, Oliver Queen was chosen to be the true Ra's al Ghul and leader of the League of Assassins; as he not only survived Ra's blade in a death match, but he also killed Ra's.
Although the show initially attracted high ratings, viewership declined steadily over the course of the season, and the series was canceled after 19 episodes, having ended the season in 43rd place.
Thea may be all forgiving of Oliver's deception, but she can't quite let go of the fact that Malcolm knew Oliver was the Arrow and tried to push her away from Oliver.
