Renai discovers Elise's corpse and sees the photograph she took. The photo reveals that Josh is now possessed by the ghost of the old woman from his childhood, the latter having slipped into his body when he confronted her in The Further.
Elise saves Josh and appears to destroy Michelle's spirit, which stops the possessed Josh from murdering his family in the real world. Carl and Josh escape and Dalton leads them back to the living world, allowing Josh to finally regain control of his body.
As she packs up for the night, Josh hands her his childhood photos, but as she takes them, she gives Josh a strange and startled look, whips out her camera and snaps a photo of Josh. Furious, Josh goes in a rage and violently strangles Elise, killing her.

Why did Elise say "Oh my god"?
In the end, Elise meets a girl named Allison who is in a "coma" and realizes something rising behind her. Elise is shocked and says "Oh my god!" gasping, hinting a sequel. The thing that was behind Allison is believed to be the red face demon as it made the same crackling sound as it did in Insidious 1.
A spirit was trying to possess him in his childhood, but Elise saved him. Then when he went into the other dimension to save his child, he got possessed by that spirit which was towards the end of the movie. What happens at the end of Insidious: Chapter 3?
Elise Returns As A Ghost In Insidious: The Red Door's Ending

The more photographs taken of Josh, the closer the shadowy woman begins to get to Josh until she is inches away from him, explaining his fear of photos. Elise suggests that Josh should use his ability to find and help return Dalton's soul, to which Josh agrees.
The Big Picture. Insidious is not based on a true story, so you don't have to worry about real-life hauntings like in The Conjuring series. The inspiration for Insidious came from Wan and Whannell's desire to make a horror film about astral projection.
The demon chases them to the red door and Josh stays behind to keep it shut so Dalton will be safe. The Jump scares are lazy. They try to force a relationship between Dalton and Chris (terribly written character btw). It's just a lot of stuff going on that has very little to do with the main plot. I never thought i'd see a Bob Ross horror film until now.
The Lipstick-Face Demon, also known as the Man With Fire on his Face, the Red-Faced Demon, Sixtass, or simply the Demon, is the main antagonist of the Insidious franchise. These red doors, we learn, are controlled by the Keyface Demon. Elise inadvertently leaves the red door to the Lamberts' attic open, suggesting that she's accidentally responsible for kicking off the events of the first film.
You can watch every Insidious movie in chronological order. Although we don't recommend it. While the first two films follow a connected story, the third and fourth Insidious films serve as prequels to the Lamberts' story.
Renai reveals that this has all happened before, and Josh and Dalton have both had their memories suppressed. She divorced him because the children were scared of him, remembering that he had tried to kill them and not understanding that he was possessed at the time.
It's a common question, but the answer is no, The Conjuring and Insidious franchises are not linked to each other. The only 'link' is James Wan, who directed both the first two Conjuring movies and the Insidious movies. Fun fact: Patrick Wilson starred in both the first two Insidious movies and The Conjuring movies.
