Sammon, in the wonderful Future Noir, notes that the actual eye photographed for this shot was not the eye of actor Morgan Paul who played the character Holden, but that the eye was supposed to be Holden looking out from a window high in the Tyrell Corporation building onto the Hades landscape.
Who is the woman with one eye in Blade Runner 2049?
Theory: The Reason that Fresha (the woman in the replicant rebellion) is missing an eye. She took it out herself. Replicants are identified by a serial number on their left eye. Sapper's serial number is shown in his left eye.
Holden shows up in the opening scene, introduced as another blade runner tasked with sniffing out replicants who are disguising themselves as regular humans. The replicant he's interviewing realizes Holden's found him out, panics, shoots Holden in the chest and escapes from the facility.
In the opening scene, Agent K (Ryan Gosling), one of these Nexus-9 Replicants, travels to a protein farm outside Los Angeles in his flying Spinner vehicle, where he has tracked down an older model Replicant called Sapper Morton (Dave Bautista), who is part of a group of Series 8 Replicants that have gone AWOL.
It is symbolic that the man who designed replicant eyes shows the replicants the way to Tyrell. Eyes are widely regarded as "windows to the soul", eye contact being a facet of body language that unconsciously demonstrates intent and emotion and this is used to great effect in Blade Runner.
In a 2023 interview, Ford stated that he "always knew" that Deckard was a replicant, but wanted to "push back against it", adding that a replicant (or at least, Deckard) would want to believe that they are human.
Because of this memory, K became convinced that he was Rachael and Deckard's child, but was eventually informed by Freysa that he was not and that the child was female. With this revelation, K soon determined that Stelline was the child. K took Deckard to Stelline's lab as she interacted with a snowfall hologram.
Ana Stelline (Carla Juri), who is Deckard and Rachael's daughter but has no idea of this and now works as the world's best memory fabricator. We don't know if she planted that memory in only K's brain or in the brains of hundreds of replicants, hoping one of them would follow this message in a bottle. Maybe others did.
Much like the original, Blade Runner 2049 became a cult hit but failed to thrive financially due to pacing issues, murky stakes and zero fun factor. Ridley Scott followed up the tremendous success of his science fiction horror film Alien with his cyber-noir thriller Blade Runner.
So, whose eye, is it? Sammon, in Future Noir, indicates the eye is Holden's who is working undercover and screening applicants to the Tyrell Corporation to detect and arrest rogue replicants, so it could be Holden looking out at the Hades landscape as he waits for the next applicant.
When jilted by his father/creator, Roy expresses love by kissing Tyrell right before killing him—the kind of bruised, embittered love a child expresses toward an abusive, negligent parental figure.
Being a replicant from the new batch, he is trained to show little to no emotion as a Blade Runner in order to complete tasks that are at times questionable and any opposition would result in his death.
This is when she slices his eyes with her katana, permanently blinding him. While Elle manages to escape with her life and leave Los Angeles for parts unknown, her actions may have actually motivated Wallace Jr. to become the ruthless CEO he is in Blade Runner 2049.
As K investigates further, he discovers the deceased pregnant female Replicant is Rachel (Sean Young) created by the acclaimed scientist and founder of the Tyrell Corporation Dr. Eldon Tyrell (Joe Turkel) who vanished along with the retired Blade Runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) following Dr.
However, he later learns that, even if the memory is real, it was not his own but Dr Ana Stelline's. Through her work, Dr Stelline shared her memory with K, and this allowed him to understand what it was like to walk in her shoes, but most importantly, to believe himself a free, loved replicant.
The second film further develops Rachael's origin, and gives significantly more details about her radical design. It revealed that she was an experimental model of replicant with a high percentage of human organs, including human reproductive organs, and that Rachael conceived a child with Deckard.
K started the movie believing he was made, with implanted memories. He then thought he was born, and that the memories were real. In fact, as revealed by the end of the movie, he was made and the memories were implants – but they were real, implanted memories from the actual daughter of Deckard and Rachael.
KD6-3.7, nicknamed K and later known as Joe, was a Nexus-9 replicant Blade Runner tasked by the Los Angeles Police Department with retiring outdated Nexus-8 replicants, which were rushed into production in 2020 by the Tyrell Corporation upon the death of its founder, Dr.
The horse, with the inscription "6.10. 21", establishes the connection between the dead female replicant who gave birth and died on 6.10. 21, and K himself, implying that the memories were not in fact "implanted" but are rather genuine after all.
During the final fight with K, after subduing him, she smugly kissed him and retorted "I am the best one!", as if trying to prove her superiority over not just K, but all other replicants, further hinting at her deep-seated insecurities that she kept well-hidden.
Humans hate replicants because even though they appear similar to humans they're still perceived as fundamentally different. Humans have once again fallen for the bias of seeing themselves as the center of the world (which is called anthropocentrism).
“Blade Runner 2049” is one of the most important movies of this century as it explores significant themes in modern society, particularly loneliness. The main character's journey in the movie allows us to delve into the forces that shape our current world, and ultimately come to a deeper understanding of these issues.
The blade runner universe comprises of replicants and humans. The replicants look like humans, talk like humans and probably even feel like humans do, except they are made by humans themselves.
