Groot is a Flora colossus from Planet X, the capital of the branch worlds. The Flora colossi are tree-like beings whose language is almost impossible to understand due to the stiffness of their larynxes, causing their speech to sound like they are repeating the phrase "I am Groot".
Groot's iconic catchphrase "I am Groot" was actually a complete mistranslation. The phrase originated in an alternate timeline where Groot mistakenly repeated dialogue from his teammates. Groot's repetitive speech is a physical limitation, but he has a full-fledged internal monologue.
Unfortunately, as tree people, flora colossi possess wooden larynxes that make speaking very difficult. The only words they can manage are "I am Groot." (The MCU's Groot's use of "we are" during his sacrifice was apparently not a light undertaking.)
At first, it just seems like Rocket makes up whatever Groot intends with his words, but the truth is that Rocket really understands Groot's strange language. Because Rocket has spent more time with Groot than anyone else, he understands all the nuances of the words and the way Groot says them.

Gamora (and the viewer) understands Groot verbally because he is finally understood on an emotional level. After getting to know him across three movies, the audience understands him - without the need for a violent mind-meld.
Up until now, we – and several non-Guardians characters – couldn't comprehend Groot's language because we didn't have too close of an attachment to him. By the end of the trilogy, after experiencing all that the cosmic team has been through, we can now understand him.

As we all saw at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy when Groot heroically turns into a wooden roll cage and sacrifices himself for his fellow teammates, he can grow back from almost anything. So long as there's some good soil and a pot around, he is basically immortal.
Gamora is agile, hits hard, and shows no mercy, making her a real powerhouse among the Guardians. She's not as tough as Groot and Drax, but her exceptional skill makes her harder to hit, and she can use blades and firearms with equal skill in any battle.

This is a very simple answer that a lot of people don't understand: You don't need to be worthy to lift Stormbreaker! During the Avengers: Infinity War Vudu Viewing Party, one fan asked directors Joe and Anthony Russo if this meant Groot was also "worthy." The Russos clarified that the worthiness enchantment that Odin placed on Mjolnir was specific to that original hammer and does not transfer over to all of Thor's weapon.
