Alby confesses that he was the one who burned all the maps, fearing that Thomas would figure a way out of the Maze. Alby explains that he had visions of a disease called the Flare and that he saw the world scorched by fire. Alby says that it would be better to die in the Glade than to return home.
Alby makes it clear that he doesn't want to return to the outside world and confesses to burning down the Map room. He says that his memories showed him that outside of the Maze, a deadly disease called the Flare had infected almost everyone, and much of the world had been destroyed.
One of the first to arrive in the Glade, Alby is the oldest resident and leader of the Gladers. His experience and deep commitment to order keep the Glade running smoothly, though this dedication often feeds the perception that he is harsh or mean.
The Griever takes Gally through the West Door and the other Grievers follow. Alby has burned the Maps, but it turns out that Minho had already moved the real Maps to protect them.

In the book, Minho's main reasoning is that there is a cure for being stung, so leaving Alby, their leader, in the Maze would be the same as killing him. There's a chance to save him. Ben, instead, was banished not because he was stung, but because he attempted to kill Thomas.
She's the one from Thomas's dream-memory. She carries a note that says: “She's the last one–ever.” She has two syringes of antidote for Griever stings, but no memories. In the film, Alby was one of the victims of the Griever Attack in the night the doors remained open. While running from the Grievers, Thomas and some other Gladers found Clint and Jeff carrying an unconscious Alby, began trying to find shelter, they were attacked by a Griever.
Gally's hatred of Thomas is ultimately driven by an unwavering commitment to rules and safety, as well as a deep desire to uncover the truth of the Gladers' circumstances.
He runs away from the Glade in a fit of rage after exclaiming that he thought Thomas was not to be trusted in the Gathering. At the end of the book, he kills Chuck when he tries to save Thomas from being hit with a dagger.
Newt is approached by Thomas on a rooftop and shows him his infection, as shown by the black veins on his right arm. Newt explains that the reason WCKD put him in the Maze was because they wanted to tell the difference between immunes like Thomas and people like himself.
However, none of the Maze Runner movies ever explain why WCKD sent Teresa into the Maze. It seems improbable that she betrayed WCKD since she defends them fervently. In Maze Runner 4, the story could provide clarity about whether Teresa went into the Maze voluntarily and the purpose of her presence.

It is eventually revealed that Thomas' blood contains a unique enzyme that can destroy the Flare virus [2]. In "The Death Cure" film, Teresa, one of the main characters, uses a small fragment of Thomas' blood and observes under a microscope that it snaps a dark-red vein with the virus in it, effectively killing it [2].
It just needed to happen, in her mind. No biggie. In book 2, she couldn't stand the thought of Thomas feeling betrayed without warning, so she tries really hard to warn him. And then basically kills their friendship to save his life.
Described by Thomas as a bully, Gally is hotheaded and arrogant, constantly threatening the other boys with violence. Despite his flaws, Gally cares deeply about the safety of the Gladers, sacrificing his own life to prevent the Grievers from killing any of the other boys.
