He has developed multiple medical problems in the years since his tenure as the Batman and has been forced to walk with a cane; his leg was injured in the fall off the ledge after rescuing Gordon's son in The Dark Knight. He is in very poor physical condition, which worries Alfred about him fighting Bane.
At the end of The Dark Knight, while trying to save Commissioner Gordon's son and stop Harvey Dent, Bruce falls from a great height suffers a leg injury that leaves him using a cane throughout the beginning of Rises.

Although Batman is a skilled fighter and has a lot of defensive techs, he“s just a regular human and has no inherent superpowers. This doesn“t matter when dealing with “regular”“ criminals, but when faced with the likes of Bane or Mr. Freeze, Batman becomes vulnerable to injuries or freezing just like any other human.
