Lemony Snicket was in love with Beatrice and they almost got married, but Beatrice married Bertrand instead, supposedly because she believed that Lemony was dead after his obituary appeared in The Daily Punctilio newspaper.
Why didn t Beatrice Baudelaire marry Lemony Snicket?
We can assume that Beatrice at one time believed that Snicket was dead. When Lemony was revealed to be alive, she had already married Bertrand and she could not marry him.
So, to recap: Beatrice and Lemony meet, fall in love and plan to get married. Beatrice reads in the Daily Punctilio about how Lemony is involved in some sort of scandal involving the VFD Schism, very probably, and breaks it off with him, and forbids him to ever see her again.
Beatrice is none other than Beatrice Baudelaire — the dead mother of the Baudelaire children. She died in a fire along with her husband, Bertrand. But before she married Bertrand (and had Violet, Klaus, and Sunny), Beatrice and Lemony Snicket were in love and almost got married themselves.
In this canon, the Sugar Bowl was stolen from Esmé Squalor at La Forza del Destino, unintentionally causing the death of Count Olaf's father; Beatrice and Lemony stole the Sugar Bowl, which contained an immunization to the Medusoid Mycelium, in an attempt to keep it out of the wrong hands.

Why is Esme so obsessed with the Sugar Bowl?
Esmé Squalor, it seems, is only interested in the sugar bowl because it completes her tea set and was stolen from her by Beatrice Baudelaire and Lemony Snicket. However, in "The End" Kit reveals to the Baudelaires that the sugar bowl does actually contain something of value: sugar.
Beatrice and Snicket were childhood friends and were both part of a secret society called V.F.D. (Volunteer Fire Department). The two fell in love and almost married. However, Beatrice rejected Snicket's proposal and wrote him a 200-page book explaining why.
“You're right,” she said finally, to Count Olaf, “this marriage, unfortunately, is completely legal. Violet said 'I do,' and signed her name here on this paper. Count Olaf, you are Violet's husband, and therefore in complete control of her estate.”
Finally, in Chapter 12, Olaf reveals that poison darts were the reason he became an orphan himself, implying that the Baudelaire parents may have murdered his own parents and possibly explaining his hatred for the Baudelaires.
Although this was a long-standing fan theory (his last words are “Kit”), the series finally confirms that the third triplet was Kit's baby daddy, and the father of Beatrice Baudelaire II.
The most popular theory behind the fire is that Count Olaf is the culprit. He has had a history of starting similar fires and admits to being guilty of "arson".
However, it is implied that Olaf eventually found out Beatrice was his father's killer. Olaf tried to exact revenge on Beatrice. He tried to kill Beatrice at a V.F.D. party by shoving her off a balcony, but the wings of her dragonfly costume worked.
"From the beginning, we wanted to honor the encyclopedic and brilliant work of [Lemony Snicket author] Daniel Handler – we had no real intention of it doing spin-offs or offshoots. It ends so operatically, and yet [the ending is] so heartfelt, and so grown-up. I don't know where else anyone would want to go with it."
In a flashback in "The Penultimate Peril" Pt. 2, Beatrice accidentally killed Count Olaf's father with a dart that was meant for Esmé Squalor after she and her ex-fiancé Lemony Snicket steal Esmé's sugar bowl. Which had led to Olaf's hatred over both the Baudelaire and Snicket families.
And the big question, did the Baudelaires survive fleeing the island? Yes, and they lived on to raise Kit Snicket's child to be a new kind of volunteer. A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS Credit: It makes sense that a TV show would have a more traditionally satisfying ending than a series of very weird books from the '00s.
What happened to Violet Klaus and Sunny in the end?
The End concludes with Violet, Klaus, and Sunny deciding to sail away from the island a year after Beatrice's birth and returning to the depressing adult world, and readers never find out what happened to the orphans.
Violet mentions that their spot on the slope has a lovely view, and Quigley turns to look at her as he says, "Very lovely indeed." Lemony Snicket refuses to describe what happened, saying Violet deserves some privacy, although it is quite possible the two shared a kiss.
In both the TV series and the book series, Violet has a brief flirtation and romantic moment or two with Quigley. It's interesting, because Duncan seemed to have a crush on her at school that she reciprocated.
Violet did not show any signs of being interested in Quigley at first. But he became interested in Violet when she declined his statement that according to the map there is no straightforward way to the Mt. Fraught.
Klaus's crushes are: Isadora (who looks like Violet) and Fiona (who is like Violet in personality). The similarities between them and Violet are not just something fans noticed, but something that Klaus himself explicitly points out in canon.
After her plans for a cocktail party at the Hotel Denouement are canceled by Olaf (who decides to murder the guests instead), Esmé leaves his theater troupe and takes Carmelita. When the hotel is set on fire, Esmé is trapped on the second floor, where she and Carmelita presumably die.
