This leads Driss to explain to Philippe the whole truth about his past, which leads Philippe to let Driss go. He says that Driss' family needs him and Driss needs to be there for his family rather than spending his whole life taking care of Philippe. Driss returns to the suburbs and Philippe hires a new caregiver.
Why did Driss come to the patient's house and why did he stay and work?
Driss (Omar Sy) is a man out on parole for robbery, who applies for the job of Philippe's caregiver only so he can be rejected and get a signature on his application for unemployment benefits.
He has spent six months in jail, which explains why he hadn't been home. This bothers Philippe's attorney, who, articulating the prevailing theory of psychopathy, points out that types such as Driss are brutes and have no pity. Exactly, Philippe retorts, “no pity” is what he wants.
He says: "I think it's a very human story, and it's funny and touching … Philippe chooses Driss as his caretaker partly because he doesn't see him as disabled or pity him. He just sees another person."
Philippe, the son of a French duke, became quadriplegic following a paragliding accident in 1993. At first, he didn't adjust well to his disability, once attempting suicide by wrapping his oxygen tube around his neck.

Why did Driss leave?
Philippe recognizes Driss's need to support his family and releases him from his job, suggesting he "may not want to push a wheelchair all his life". Driss returns to his suburbs, joining his friends, and manages to help his younger cousin. Due to his new professional experience, he lands a job in a transport company.
Driss, on the other hand, learns from Philippe to look after the people he cares about the most, his family and friends. He starts to appreciate the finer details in life and create an ambition to do better for himself and his family. Both their lives becomes brighter and clearer as they travel their journey together.
Despite warnings that Driss is a bad influence, Philippe enjoys his company because Driss does not pity him and tells him the truth. Under Driss's care, Philippe learns to be happy for the first time since his wife died of a terminal illness. Likewise, Philippe allows Driss to enjoy the comforts of being rich.

Philippe explains his disability resulted from a paragliding incident and that his wife died without bearing children. Gradually, Driss helps him to organise his private life, including disciplining his precocious adopted daughter Elisa. Driss discovers modern art, opera and starts painting.
At the end of the film, we see the real millionaire and his assistant. They are still friends, even though they don't see each other as often as they used to. The men left France: Abdel returned to Algeria where he opened a bird farm, and Philippe moved to Morocco.
Although the real-life 'Driss' was a young Algerian man called Abdel, directors Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache changed the character's nationality to Senegalese, as they had enjoyed working with Omar Sy on Tellement proches (2009), and really wanted him to play the part.
