Out of nowhere, Sam appears and gets Elsa, Wade and Colton to lay down on the side of hill and brace themselves. Impulsively, Elsa kisses Sam as they hold on to each other for dear life. Miraculously, no one is killed by the tornado, but the destruction to the wagons and the settlers' possessions is devastating.
As they all regroup after the storm, new cowboy Colton is a little pissy that he lost a girl to a Comanche, but voice of reason Wade points out that he never had the girl in the first place. Sam, meanwhile, tells Elsa she is always welcome on Comanche land before he rides away, for now.
During the late afternoon and evening of August 21, 1883, three significant tornadoes (two F3s and one F5) occurred in southeast Minnesota. These tornadoes affected parts of Dodge, Olmsted, and Winona counties, and they accounted for 40 fatalities and over 200 injuries.

The tornado was the first significant tornado of the day. This F3 tornado touched down around 330 PM about 10 miles south of Rochester near Pleasant Grove (Olmsted County). This tornado caused damage on four farms during its 3 mile track through southern Olmsted County. One of these farms was completely destroyed.
Elsa, who had decided to see her family in Oregon before returning to be with Sam, may be dead, but just as her spirit narrates the series (and the following 1923 series), so it's implied that her spirit reunites with Sam's in the afterlife.
Elsa was also planning to split from the group to stay with Sam, but after many goodbyes, everyone decided they were going to Oregon anyway. Even Elsa decided to leave her boyfriend so she could find out where Oregon was, while planning to return to the plains in June to reunite with him.
The two then ride off where Sam tells Elsa that he chose his name after a man named Sam killed his wife; he wanted to take the man's name after taking the man's life. (Sam killed Sam.) Sam gives Elsa a nickname, “Lightning Yellow Hair.”
With each sneeze, Elsa unknowingly produces a group of "Snowgies", little snow-babies who begin to dismantle the birthday party's decorations while Kristoff & Sven try to stop them and Olaf embraces them.
It was after that the decision was made to fully commit to the voice calling to Elsa being that of her mother, Iduna. As Marc Smith, Frozen 2's Director of Story, notes in the documentary, the idea "unifies the movie" since it starts with a flashback featuring Iduna and Agnarr, and it brings those elements together.
It also sets the stage for her relationship with Sam, who will later become her unofficial husband. Elsa grew exponentially through her short romance with Ennis, and her more serious relationship with Sam is a representation of that growth.
Indeed, as there are no condoms or any other reliable form of birth control in the frontier, there's a real possibility that Ennis really did impregnate Elsa. Sadly, before 1883 could even drop any clues that Elsa was pregnant, Ennis died in the next episode while Elsa died during the finale.
In a stunning twist, Elsa decides that she will not make the rest of the journey to Oregon, opting to stay with Sam, marry him and make a life together. It's a decision that garners a great deal of pushback from James and especially Margaret (Faith Hill), who is not ready to relinquish control over her daughter yet.
But Anna and Elsa's parents are coming back in the sequel — for a scene. The movie will begin with a prologue set in the past. The flashback will feature the princesses' mother, voiced by Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood. In a scene shown at D23, the mother sings to her two young daughters to help them fall asleep.

Jennifer Lee, CCO of Walt Disney Animation Studios and co-director of both Frozen and Frozen 2, confirmed on Twitter that, for the main part of Frozen's story, Anna is 18 and Elsa is 21. This means that Anna was 15 and Elsa was 18 when their parents, Iduna and Agnarr, died.
In Comancheria, the settlers pay a tax to the Comanche to cross their land. One of the Comanche introduces himself to Elsa as Sam, a name he took from the man who killed his wife. The two race their horses; Elsa wins and Sam nicknames her "Lightning With The Yellow Hair".
After Elsa and Ennis had sex in Episode 5 of 1883, there were several conversations of pregnancy and raising babies, which may be a premonition. Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) warns her daughter that she won't help her raise the child if she's pregnant, which sends Elsa straight to Ennis.
Unfortunately for the young couple, their honeymoon ended abruptly when Ennis, in an effort to protect Elsa and the others, from a dangerous group of bandits, was killed by gunshot in the final minutes of the latest installment.
There is a popular theory telling that Rapunzel may be Anna and Elsa's cousin, after her cameo in Frozen I. Some people even have theorized that Elsa may be Rapunzel's biological sister and not Anna's. Other people simply like portraying them as friends.
