On 31 July 1991, Rubeus Hagrid, despite being forbidden to perform magic, attempted to transfigure Dudley Dursley into a pig, after his father Vernon Dursley had crudely insulted Albus Dumbledore at the Hut-on-the-Rock, but only managed to give him a tail.
The reason Hagrid attempts to perform this magic is out of anger. Dudley's family, the Dursleys, insulted and belittled Harry in front of Hagrid. Hagrid, being very fond of Harry, took this quite personally, leading him to lose his temper and try to transfigure Dudley into a pig.
What made Hagrid so angry that he made a pigs tail appear on Dudley at the cabin?
Didn't Hagrid use a wand on Dudley to give him a tail in the first book? Yes indeed. He got angry when Dudley was eyeing Harry's cake, and fully intended to turn him into a pig.
When Hagrid first meets Harry to pick him up and take him from the Dursley family, he has an encounter with them which actually sees him use some magic. He gives Dudley a pig's tail as a way of making Harry laugh, while also punishing Dudley for his behavior.
After dropping Harry off at King's Cross Station on 1 September, the Dursleys took Dudley to a private hospital in London to have the tail surgically removed before he went to Smeltings. Over the course of the school year, he grew even more massive: so much so that his bottom drooped over each side of his chair.
The only staff member who supported Umbridge whole-heartedly was the caretaker, Argus Filch, who grew to like her methods, as well as being given permission to torture students himself. She later fired Gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid, as he was a half-giant.

At the beginning of the Battle of Hogwarts, the Death Eaters invaded the home of the Acromantula and drove them to attack the school. When the spiders attacked, Hagrid ran forwards to protect them. Acromantula are horribly strong, so it is likely that they captured him and took him to Lord Voldemort.
In Hagrid's third year, he was framed by Tom Riddle for the crime of opening the Chamber of Secrets and using his pet Acromantula to attack several Muggle-born students and eventually killing one of them.
In the fourth novel it is revealed that Hagrid is of mixed wizard and giant parentage, his mother having been the giantess Fridwulfa, who left his wizard father when Hagrid was a baby.
His last words in the movie are, "I still don't understand why we have to leave." But he also has a deleted film scene where he has a final conversation with Harry, and his last line is, "I don't think you're a waste of space." In the final book, Dudley's last line is simply, "See you, Harry."
Considering their rough relationship when they were growing up and living together, it was very unlikely that they would become close friends when they were adults. However, the fact that Harry and Dudley kept in touch as adults and their children would meet occasionally demonstrates the strides in their relationship.
He was thus forced, rather harshly, to realize he needed to change his ways. This led to him regretting his treatment of Harry and his later attempts at reconciliation. The cousins would have a relatively good relationship by 2017: Dudley and Harry visited each other, while their children played together.
One of Petunia Dursley's biggest secrets was the promise she made to Albus Dumbledore. When James and Lily were killed at the hand of Voldemort and Harry was dropped off on the doorstep of 4 Privet Drive, there was a letter accompanying him.
The two children of Dudley Dursley and his wife were Muggles. They were occasionally visited by their magical second cousins, the two sons and daughter of their father's cousin Harry Potter. It is unknown whether they knew of their cousins' magical heritage.
After the end of the Second Wizarding War, Cho later married a Muggle individual. She most likely kept her D.A. coin, as a badge of honour, as did other D.A. members. It can be assumed that she attended the 2014 reunion of Dumbledore's Army.
Whilst attempting to protect Hagrid from being sacked by Umbridge, McGonagall was attacked by Umbridge's Aurors and was sent to St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
Harry describes Umbridge to Sirius Black, saying that she's vile enough to be a Death Eater, despite not being one. Umbridge is also depicted to be a prejudiced person, despising half-breeds and Muggle-born witches and wizards to the point of firing Hagrid due to his half-giant birth status.
Correctly judged, by senior Death Eaters, to have much more in common with them than she ever had with Albus Dumbledore, she not only retained her post but was given extra authority, becoming Head of the Muggle-born Registration Commission, which was in effect a kangaroo court that imprisoned all Muggle-borns on the ...
Petunia and Vernon weren't kind caretakers (as seen in Harry Potter) but they did agree to take Harry in just to keep him alive. While yes, Petunia despised her late sister and mistreated her only living child, she still kept Harry out of a sense of familial duty.
