What's the significance of the Bible in Mission: Impossible?
After the heist in Langley, Ethan sees that the Bible he used in the safe house was stamped “PLACED BY THE GIDEONS IN THE DRAKE HOTEL CHICAGO”. This is where he figures out what really happened and that Jim Phelps is the turncoat.
Phelps resurfaces unexpectedly, recounts surviving the shooting, and tells Ethan that Kittridge is the mole. However, Ethan has already realized that Phelps is the mole after discovering that the Bible he used in Prague was taken from Chicago's Drake Hotel, where Phelps was stationed on a previous assignment.
Specifically, Jim planned to sell a classified list of of Non Official Cover or NOC agents. To accomplish this, Jim planned to steal a NOC List that was being housed at an embassy in Prague that was supposed to be stolen by someone else.
When Hunt asks why "Kittridge" would do such a thing, Phelps uses his own reason: that he had believed he was becoming "a worthless piece of hardware not worth upgrading" due to the end of the Cold War.
Why did Jim fake his death in Mission: Impossible?
The 1996 movie featured Jon Voight's Jim Phelps staging his own death during the film's opening mission. It was a deception designed to take his enemies focus off of him entirely before he returned. Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa also died from a stab wound on a bridge, just like Jim Phelps pretended to.

Mia denied that Ethan is gone, proceeding to tell him the secret that she had been keeping for years, that Ethan was in fact killed by Jack Baker after his fight with Mia up at the attic and that the only thing that is keeping him alive is the Mold.
Resident Evil Village finally explains Ethan's magnificent healing abilities. He actually died during the beginning of Resident Evil 7 and became infected with the Mold immediately. His high affinity with the Mold led to his impressive regeneration abilities. It is just a shame the Mold could not numb the pain.
Although it seems like they may be dating, Ethan Hunt and Ilsa Faust aren't actually in a relationship in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.
