Among them is her friend Madge Undersee, who convinces Katniss to take her mockingjay pin as her tribute token – an object a tribute is allowed to carry to the games to boost morale. The pin with a mockingjay on it is a small gesture of rebellion to the evil Capitol that rules their world.
In the spirit of honoring past tributes who had fallen in the Games, perhaps Madge simply wanted to honor her aunt's legacy, and she gifted the Mockingjay pin to Katniss as a kind of blessing on her, in the hopes that her fate would be different from that of her aunt's.

In the first movie, Katniss got her pin at the Hob from Greasy Sae, and she gave it to her younger sister Primrose Everdeen as a gift, promising that it would protect her. Prim returned the pin to Katniss after the reaping because she felt Katniss needed it more.

Peeta used the dyes to paint a picture of Rue after Katniss covered her with flowers when she died. He says he wants to hold them accountable for killing Rue, and Effie tells him that that kind of thinking is forbidden. Katniss then tells the team she hung a dummy of Seneca Crane.
In The Hunger Games, the first tribute Katniss allied with was the twelve-year-old Rue from District 11. Katniss was drawn to Rue as she reminded her of her little sister Prim and sought to protect her in the Games.
Her alliance with Rue serves her well, especially once the two of them start swapping knowledge and supplies. Not only does Katniss trust Rue, but she also sees some of Prim in her, too, which is a welcomed reminder of home.
In The Hunger Games, Prim was chosen because she was wearing the mockingjay pin. I noticed Katniss gives Prim the Mockingjay pin before the reaping and prim wears it on her lapel. Considering many in district 12 can't afford jewellery, she stands out during a ceremony that's televised to all citizens.
Prim was originally chosen as District 12's tribute during the annual reapings, but Katniss made the ultimate sacrifice for her family and volunteered to take her sister's place. Prim serves as a contrast to her big sister. She is a more conventionally feminine character, for starters.
Why didn t Katniss shoot Gale when he asked her to?
In Mockingjay, Katniss defied Gale's wishes when he was captured because she didn't want to see him dead. It seems like a nice thing for her to do, especially since Gale is soon able to escape out of the Peacekeepers' grasp because of the rebellion's "distraction".
Page 38 Peeta's father visits Katniss and says, “I'll keep an eye on the little girl. Make sure she's eating.” has been lifted off her shoulder. But I was wondering why he was being nice to the person that is soon going to try and kill his son.
Katniss comes close to crying, something she knows she mustn't do because it would indicate weakness to the other tributes and make her look vulnerable; thankfully, Haymitch distracts the crowd and the cameras by stumbling off stage.
She gives Katniss the gold pin from her dress. It is a bird, a mockingjay inside a circle, and Madge makes Katniss promise that she will wear it into the arena. Gale is her last visitor, and as soon as he enters the room, the two of them embrace.
Rue's dad doesn't start a riot in District 11 after his daughter's death. Haymitch doesn't convince the Game Maker to change the solo victor rule. The film annexes the briefly mentioned characters Madge Undersee, Mayor Undersee, Greasy Sae, and Venia.
Why does Katniss break glimmers fingers with a rock?
Admittedly, this aspect could very well be Katniss' hallucinogenic tracker jacker stings working against her, but she does have to break Glimmer's fingers to retrieve the bow the other tribute was carrying, adding to the scene's grimness.
Katniss made the choice to build her future with Peeta. If she didn't love him, she wouldn't have made that choice. Katniss made her whole world about getting the people she cared about to the next day, her choice to survive with Peeta proves her love for him.
In the 75th Hunger Games, Finnick Odair from District 4 had a token that was a gold bangle with a flame pattern. This token was first given to Haymitch Abernathy from Effie Trinket as a sign of them being a team. Haymitch gave it to Finnick to tell Katniss to make him an ally, as he could later help her in the games.
While the Hunger Games film never talked about it, the Catching Fire novel explained why she could only communicate through hand gestures. Katniss briefly mentioned that a previous stroke could have caused Mags' garbled speech. However, post-traumatic stress disorder could have also caused her speech incapacity.
During the supposed execution of Snow, she instead shoots Coin, due to her being responsible for Prim's death. She then attempts to kill herself with the suicide pill attached to her uniform, but Peeta stops her.
He only uses Katniss because the Capitol is brutally oppressive and he realizes that, with Katniss's help, the rebels have a real chance of bringing it down. This sort of cynical pragmatism largely defines Haymitch, and it stems from a combination of realism and a rebellious spirit.
