Pan was a box-office bomb, only grossing $128.4 million against a production budget of $150 million, resulting in significant loss for the studio, and was received negatively by critics, with criticism calling the plot formulaic and the action heavily reliant on CGI.
For an origin story thats supposed to answer a lot of questions this does a great job making us question more than the film is supposed to answer. What Pan really suffers from is just bad casting, weak screenplay and most of all inconsistency.
“Peter Pan & Wendy” isn't a complete failure, but nor does this return to Neverland pass that test; rather, it's another case of a Disney production that – unlike the beloved and venerable story that inspired it – never truly takes flight.
Aimed as a prequel to Disney's 1953 animated classic, Warner Bros. ' “Pan” introduces Peter and Hook before they were the ever dueling rivals of Neverland. Peter, played by newcomer Levi Miller, is living in a London orphanage when he is carried away by the infamous ship The Jolly Roger to magical Neverland.

The iconic pirate villain of J.M. Barrie's original Peter and Wendy, named Captain James Hook, is bent on killing Peter Pan because Peter cut off his hand and fed it to the crocodile. Barrie also says Hook worked for Blackbeard and was the only man Long John Silver was afraid of.
So, why exactly do Peter Pan and Captain Hook hate each other so much? Well, in most cases the story is usually portrayed as being pretty simple. Why did Wendy and Peter Pan didn't end up together?
The Peter Pan & Wendy ending implies that Peter might decide to grow up one day, but he is not yet ready to go back to where he came from or have a new mother. He would rather return to Captain Hook, who is his family now. Hook is still Peter's oldest friend, even if the two have been at odds for years.
Peter Pan loves both Wendy and Jane, but only in the way that a son loves a mother. First, Peter has Wendy come with him to Neverland to be mother to his Lost Boys. When she tells Peter she has developed romantic feelings for him, he tells her that he loves her as if she is his mother.

Finding Neverland is based on the life of JM Barrie, author of Peter Pan and is inspired by true events. It is a charming movie set in London 1903, and relates the story of the relationship between Barrie and the widowed Sylvia Llewellyn Davies and her four sons.
While living in London, Barrie befriended the Llewelyn Davies family during his frequent walks in Kensington Gardens. The five boys, George, John, Peter, Michael, and Nicholas, became the inspiration for Peter Pan and several of the characters are named after the boys.

The new Peter Pan & Wendy confirms the connection between Captain Hook and Peter goes further back than Peter, causing the pirate to lose his hand. Captain Hook was the first lost boy in Neverland, and he and Peter were best friends.
TINKER BELL: A fairy and companion of Peter Pan, Tinker Bell is very rude to Wendy, but mainly out of jealousy because she wants to be more than friends with Peter. Toward the end of the story, she risks her life to save Peter's.
The crocodile's symbolic function as time, fate, and the inevitable is Hook's own invention, a trace of Hook's love for a vanished order. In the end, the crocodile's only symbolic connection to fate is his passive compliance in fulfilling his savage goal of getting Hook.
