After he finally realized that Batman had never wanted to abandon him, and was willing to help him after apologizing, Jason abandoned his persona and become a violent vigilante who was known as Red Hood. When Scarecrow trapped Batman at the Arkham Mansion, Jason arrived and freed him.
Though he never voiced it, Batman did privately admit that he didn't go searching for Jason because he was afraid of what he would find. He knew Jason was killing people, and Batman couldn't live with the shame of knowing that he had unintentionally created a deadlier version of Joe Chill.
After capturing Scarecrow and returning to Panessa Studios, the main floor between the cells was painted with a large, red logo of Red Hood. It was Jason's way of showing Batman that he was back and that he had forgiven him.
While he had finally forgiven Batman and dedicated his life to once again protect the innocent in Gotham City, Jason's continued willingness to kill criminals would forever be a delicate aspect in his otherwise repaired relationship with his mentor.

Did Batman blame himself for Jason's death?
Blaming himself for Jason's death, a guilt-ridden Batman resolved to carry on alone. He even turned down Alfred's suggestion to involve Dick Grayson, his original partner.
Jason has long resented Batman for refusing to kill the Joker, believing he chose the villain's life over his. However, the pair's relationship has somewhat repaired over time, as Red Hood even adopted his former mentor's no-kill rule while rejoining the Bat-Family.
Batman has apologized and attempted to help Jason move past his trauma several times; even as recently as last year's 3 jokers miniseries, but Jason wouldn't meet him halfway.
Batman considers this his greatest failure: not properly training Jason in his role as Robin, and failing to protect him from the Joker. In the years to come, he would erect a memorial in the Batcave made from Jason's uniform.
After Batman caught Jason attempting to steal the tires of the Batmobile. Upon quickly discovering the boy doesn't have a family and has succumbed to resourcefully making a way for himself on the street, Batman takes Jason Todd in as one of his own.
In reality though, the Joker has him locked up in an abandoned wing of Arkham Asylum and proceeds to further torture him for about a year - warping his mind and making him believe that Batman just simply didn't care about him, abandoned him, and quickly replaced him with Tim Drake (Todd doesn't know that Batman thinks ...
Primarily a killer for hire, Todd once held a deep grudge against his former mentor, Bruce Wayne, for being unable to save him, but that since faded due to Jason's attempts to look forward to the future.
What if Jason Todd had never died? Batman wouldn't have become as dark and depressed after and Tim probably wouldn't have tried to become Robin immediately, although he probably would have figured out Bruce's identity. Jason, however, did have an anger problem which possibly led to the death of Felipe Garzonas.

Boomstick: Nightwing is an expert in nearly all martial arts, but so was Red Hood, so Nightwing couldn't hope to beat him in a straight-up fist-fight. Plus, Red Hood is no stranger to brutal beatdowns, meaning that more would have to be done to bring him to heel.
Batman's three biggest personal failures are having his back broken by Bane, losing Jason Todd to the Joker, and giving Azrael the cowl. Bane breaking Batman's back was Bruce Wayne's most significant defeat, as the villain outsmarted and outplanned Batman at every step of the way.
Rage: Jason's most notable weakness is his rage. Batman and numerous others have told him that his rage blinds him in battle to the point of leaving physical and mental weak points open for attacks.
It's completely justified that Red Hood wants revenge on Bane for the death of Alfred, and Jason's past desire to kill the Joker is also completely justified. But Jason killing random henchmen simply for being in his way shows that he has absolutely returned to his lethal ways of killing just about any criminal.
Robin comes along in Year 3 (Bruce is 29). In Batman #416, which takes place shortly before Jason Todd's death, Nightwing hasn't seen Bruce in eighteen months. He also says that was Robin for a total of six years. So Bruce is 36 when Jason dies (midway through Year 10 according to DC).
In Batman: Arkham Knight, the Joker lets Jason Todd live, but brainwashes him into believing that he was abandoned by Batman, convincing him to reveal Batman's secret identity as Bruce Wayne before letting him go.

Fans were quick to despise this more vengeful version of Robin. Although Jason was motivated by good intentions, he displayed a ruthlessness that was uncharacteristic of the Boy Wonder.
A resurrected Jason, however, didn't see it that way and felt that Bruce not avenging him and allowing someone else to become Robin in his place meant that he never cared about him. To get back at Bruce, Jason becomes the Red Hood and started to kill criminals than handing them over to the police.
