But by stripping Sam of his kindness and turning him into an antagonist, the show villainizes his psychological disorders.
The correlation between Emma's calorie intake and her size is established, as expelling calories causes her to shrink while ingesting more food leads to growth. However, her powers also seem to be influenced by emotional factors and her mother's teachings.

After Emma's confrontation with Sam, she shrinks to an incredibly small size. Throughout Gen V, Emma has only been able to shrink by throwing up, with this being the first time that she does so without vomiting.
While small, Emma still appears to possess a high level of strength and durability. In fact, a shrunk-down Emma has even been able to perform feats of strength like burrowing into people's heads. Additionally, Gen V episode 4 reveals Emma's ability to grow to an enormous size, which seemingly increases her strength.
