While Tchaikovsky referred to his princess as "Aurora", the Brothers Grimm had named her "Little Briar Rose"; this ultimately inspired Disney to use both names in the film, the latter of which serves as the character's alias while she is hiding from Maleficent.
Briar Rose was the nickname for Aurora in the animated Sleeping Beauty. It was after the Brothers Grimm version of Sleeping Beauty (which was called Little Briar Rose). It was never used in Maleficent (film), as Aurora's name stayed the same when her “aunts” adopted her.
In the original story written by the Grimm brothers in the 19th century, Sleeping Beauty was named Briar Rose. When Disney made a new version of the tale it was decided she would use both the names Aurora and Sleeping Beauty, although the three fairies refer to her as Briar Rose in order to conceal her identity.

For a second, Aurora stands alone with only her movements and her suitors, each of whom presents her with a white rose — representative of purity. One by one, she collects them in her left hand after pirouetting.
The message seems to be that men and women must seek Love to heal the relationship between them and thereby heal the land. The message can also apply to the union of opposites within. “Sleeping Beauty” represents the awakening of the feminine principle that was pricked to sleep by the masculine principle.
Why does the thirteenth fairy place a curse on Briar Rose?
Fairy Tale:
The King overcome with joy, invited 12 of the 13 fairies of the kingdom to bless the princess. The fairies came with offerings of riches, livestock, land, beauty, and good health for Briar Rose. However, when the slighted 13th fairy showed up uninvited, she cast a curse on the poor princess.
She resents that Briar Rose fell in love with a hansom man, instead of with her. And then later Maleficent hates Aurora, as a reminder of Briar Rose's rejection.
Also known as the Eglantine Rose, Sweet Briar can at first sight be mistaken for a Dog Rose. With similar flowers and foliage, the major difference between the two is that the Sweet Briar has leaves which give off a sweet apple scent, especially after rain or in humid conditions.
She is represented as an evil fairy and the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil" who, after not being invited to a christening, curses the infant Princess Aurora to "prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die" before the sun sets on Aurora's sixteenth birthday.
In Disney's nearly 100-year history, there has been only one Black Disney princess — Princess Tiana in “The Princess and the Frog,” a 2009 animated feature starring Anika Noni Rose.
She was called "Beastie" by Maleficent. At first, Maleficent hated Aurora, but Maleficent soon had developed a close bond with her, so she now calls Aurora "Beastie" as a nickname and a sign of affection towards her.
Because there is a homosexual character in the book, the novel has been banned in some places, and actually burned in Kansas City on the steps of the Board Of Education by a right-wing religious group.

Cursed by a wicked Godmother, Briar Rose fell into a deep slumber protected by her briars. A Prince braved the castle to break her curse, but it was not a true love's kiss and she did not stir. Hoping time would find an answer, her Fairy Godmothers contained the curse for a thousand years.
Angry over not having been invited, Maleficent casts a spell, promising that before sunset on Aurora's 16th birthday, she'll prick her finger on a spinning wheel's spindle and die.
The final part of the book is simply a conclusion where Becca returns to the U.S. to tell Stan and her family about what she discovered. At the airport, Stan is there to pick her up. He kisses her, and says "We'll get to our happily ever after eventually".
The story of Sleeping Beauty was based on the fairy tale “La Belle Au Bois Dormant,” published in 1697 by Charles Perrault. This tale also served as the inspiration for the Brothers Grimm tale, The Briar Rose, published in 1812.
