Maguire always intended to return for a fourth Spider-Man movie after 2007's divisive “Spider-Man 3,” but creative differences between director Sam Raimi and Sony Pictures prevented him from doing so.
Sony had fired Tobey Maguire when the actor was essaying the role of Peter Parker in Spider-Man, according to a Variety report. As per the report, the producers had fired him because he was suspected of having faked an injury to negotiate a bigger salary.
So, why did the devs recast the face model? Well, apparently, the older face was more difficult to use alongside Lowenthal's motion capture performance compared to the new one - especially as they moved into more powerful tech (the PS5).
The actor was 'let go' from the part after he failed to show up at an event where Sony CEO Kaz Hirai was meant to unveil The Amazing Spider-Man 3 for a 2017 release, it was disclosed in an email after the infamous Sony breach of 2014. Garfield claimed that a medical issue was the cause of his absence.
The unmade film would have featured John Malkovich as the Vulture, with Angelina Jolie considered for a prominent role. Bruce Campbell would have had memorable cameos. Sony's demands for a 3D release date and Raimi's refusal led to his departure and the cancellation of Spider-Man 4, despite already invested resources.
According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, the next Spider-Man movie – currently titled Spider-Man 4 – is due to start filming in September or October 2024. Sneider made the claim on his own website TheInSneider.com.
Despite all the rewrites, Raimi reportedly hated the scripts. He told Sony he could not meet the May 6, 2011, release date and deliver a satisfying film and decided to depart from the project. On January 11, 2010, the decision was made to scrap Spider-Man 4 entirely and reboot the franchise.
In addition to criticism about its messy plot, Spider-Man 3 has been criticized for having too many villains, which resulted in underdeveloped characters and even created a couple of plot holes.
As it is, it was just too much for the audiences. While I enjoyed the first TASM, doing a reboot was a bad call. If they had recast some key roles and continued the Raimi universe, I think the movies would have been more accepted. The Spider-man movies would have been like James Bond movies at this point.
What happened with Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield?
In case you forgot, Garfield began dating Stone while filming The Amazing Spider-Man in 2011, despite being warned against mixing work with romance. Though the pair ultimately split in 2015, they have remained close friends ever since.
James says he initially auditioned to play the superhero but was ultimately turned down. "I first auditioned for the role of Peter Parker which went well. I found out I didn't get it and I was disappointed," he reportedly said.
Back when this was announced for Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, this same discourse happened. Insomniac Games switched from John Bubniak to Ben Jordan as the face model. In the PlayStation Blog post, they said it was “to get a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal's facial capture.”
It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the chemistry between Stone and Garfield, action sequences, visual effects, and Hans Zimmer's musical score, but criticized the screenplay and overabundance of plotlines. Foxx's portrayal of Electro was met with mixed responses.

The villans are very poorly constructed, specially Harry Osborn, that was so well constructed at the previous trilogy. It's was kinda desappointing. Electro's motivation was also weak, maybe the movie tries to introduce to many characters at once.

Spider-Man 3 had too many villains, different subplots, and an overall messy plot, making it the worst movie in Raimi's trilogy, but had the production team gone with their original plan for it, Spider-Man 3 would have been even worse than it already is.
