At the end of the film, he doesn't grant wishes anymore because he's free. When Aladdin uses his last wish to grant Genie's freedom, in pure joy & disbelief - Genie asks Al to wish for something outrageous to make sure he really is free: Aladdin: Genie, you're free.
At the end, Aladdin frees Genie using his only real wish. But while Aladdin doesn't actually get his other two wishes, things between him and Jasmine still work out. That means, like most Disney movies, Aladdin concludes with a happy ending, even if the theory was accurate and the protagonist got swindled.
However, Aladdin was technically already a prince (because his father was the King of Thieves), and Aladdin didn't actually wish to be rescued because he was drowning (the Genie proved that he could exercise his power without a real wish when he saved Aladdin and Abu from the cave).

Once Aladdin said, "Genie, I wish for you to make me a prince," Genie devised and implemented a plan to thoroughly follow through. The theory focused specifically on the phrasing Aladdin used in his wish. Aladdin did not request to be a prince. He requested for Genie to make him a prince.
He chose stealing, which got him branded as a thief, and after that there REALLY wasn't anyone who would hire him. It's not the worst lesson in the world for kids to learn, that people who are poor usually aren't poor by choice.
Djinn do not grant wishes greater than their own magic can provide, but they will follow commands. For example, if a Djinni was asked to make someone rich, he could create the illusion of riches for the duration of his servitude, or give actual gold he has acquired, either from his own treasure or taken from another.
Assuming that Disney movies are canon to the legend of genies, destroying a genie's lamp kills the genie that is trapped there. As Jack Hudson said, in the movie Aladdin: The Return of Jafar, Jafar is ultimately killed after his parrot Iago kicks the lamp into a river of lava that was created by Jafar.
The original Aladdin story was actually set in China. Aladdin is one of the stories compiled in The Thousand and One Nights — a collection of Middle Eastern and Indian folk tales, however, it did not appear in the original Arabic text.
Talking with the Genie again, Aladdin tells him that the people in Agrabah say that "Prince Ali" is actually Aladdin and after discussing the lie he did with Jasmine, Genie becomes very upset and disappointed for Aladdin's claim to which he feels upset about himself in pretending to be a prince.

The magician left Persia for ever, which plainly showed that he was no uncle of Aladdin's, but a cunning magician, who had read in his magic books of a wonderful lamp, which would make him the most powerful man in the world. Though he alone knew where to find it, he could only receive it from the hand of another.
