The Númenóreans made Umbar, the harbour city in the south of Middle-earth, into a great fortress and expanded Pelargir, a landing in Gondor near the Mouths of the Anduin. The "King's Men" among the Númenóreans became jealous of Elves for their immortality, resenting the Ban of the Valar, and sought everlasting life.
For The Rings of Power, Númenórian hatred of Elves built over time out of jealously for their immortality. In The Silmarillion, Tolkien outlines the downfall of Númenor as a slow burn that began with the Ban of the Valar, which entailed the first Númenórians agreeing to never sail west toward Valinor.
The Downfall of Númenor, also called the Fall or Drowning of Númenor, was the utter destruction of the island of Númenor, a divine punishment by Eru Ilúvatar to the Númenóreans for breaking the Ban of the Valar.
The Dwarves of Khazad-dûm also didn't like the Elves. Elrond thought that he would be warmly greeted, but he wasn't. Durin IV had other reasons to be mad, but Durin III didn't. The Dwarven king simply wanted to keep his mithril hidden and away from the Elves at all costs.
Elves left Valinor and came to Middle-earth because they had no choice: The two trees that allowed life to exist in Valinor were destroyed by a giant spider called Ungoliant and another being called Morgoth.
Galadriel is one of the Calaquendi, meaning "Elves of the Light" in Quenya. Some of the earliest Elves to come into existence, the Calaquendi dwelt in Valinor with the gods during the halcyon Years of the Trees, which predate even the First Age of Middle-earth.
The oldest elf in LoTR is Círdan the Shipwright, the oldest Elf still remaining in Middle-Earth, who appears at the end of Return of the King to sail to Valinor.
Gimli is indeed a distant relative of Durin IV as his father Glóin traces his origins from the line of Durin of the Dwarves of Erebor. These were the Dwarves who dwelt beneath the Lonely Mountain and were one of the seven kinds of Dwarves (known as Khazâd).
He had trust issues, especially when it came to the elves, which had stemmed from Thranduil abandoning the towards rather than helping them with Smaug attacked, and he had the gold sickness, but there were times he was willing to take a risk.
I think it's probably fair to say that the Dunadain of both Arnor and Gondor considered themselves Numenoreans in exile. Aragorn himself told Arwen on his deathbed that he was “the last Numenorean”.
Gondor was founded by the brothers Isildur and Anárion, exiles from the downfallen island kingdom of Númenor. Along with Arnor in the north, Gondor, the South-kingdom, served as a last stronghold of the Men of the West.
The story was abandoned, but Tolkien reused the characters and events. Isildur features briefly in voiced-over flashback sequences of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The video game Middle-earth: Shadow of War departs from Tolkien's narrative by having Sauron make Isildur into a Nazgûl or ringwraith.
After the destruction of the island of Númenor and the Changing of the World, the Undying Lands were no longer a physical part of Arda, such that Men could no longer sail to Aman or Tol Eressëa. Only the Elves could sail there by the Straight Road, if in ships capable of passing out of the Spheres of the Earth.
If Tolkien would have thought to include Galadriel in the Downfall of Númenor one would have thought he would have done so. He did not. Instead he does have her meeting with Númenoreans specifically King Aldarion when he journeyed to Tharbad in the story of “Aldarion and Erendis: The Mariner's Wife.”
After the War of Wrath and the destruction of Beleriand, the Valar gave the twin Peredhil the choice over their race and fate. Elros chose the Gift of Men, but still, he was blessed with a life longer than any other mortal Man's.
Though Gimli has no children, he is not the last Dwarf of Middle-earth. After the fall of Sauron, his people continued to thrive in the Lonely Mountain. Gimli made his home in Rohan, in the Glittering Caves of Aglarond, and many of his kinsfolk came with him.
Thorin I (Third Age 2035 – 2289, died aged 254) was the King of Durin's Folk for 99 years, succeeding his father, Thráin I, on his death in T.A. 2190. Thorin was the heir of Durin the Deathless being the great-grandson of Durin VI.
Gimli was born in the Ered Luin in the Third Age, son of Glóin. Gimli had wanted to accompany his father on the quest to reclaim Erebor, but at age 62 he was deemed too young. He was a remote descendant of Durin the Deathless, chief of the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves and ancestor of the Longbeards.
While Thranduil didn't have a problem with Dwarves, he didn't care for a lot of Elves. In the book, Thranduil was an isolationist and with good reason. Thranduil was a Sindarin Elf, which meant that he had never been to Valinor, and he grew up in Doriath under the leadership of King Elu Thingol and Melian the Maia.
At this time in the story, Elves and Dwarves were more enemies than allies and refused to trust one another. But their differences weren't enough to keep Gimli from admiring Galadriel's beauty. So of all of the gifts that he could ask for, he requested a strand of her hair to remember her beauty.
Gimli didn't know about Moria's fate because there had been no communication between Erebor and Moria for 25 years, and the Dwarves were hopeful and did not want to accept failure until there was certain news.
Are There Any Evil Elves In Middle Earth? Of the Elves that are not remembered well by history, Fëanor, along with his sons, is probably the one with the worst reputation.
As powerful as Galadriel, Fëanor, and many other Elves worthy of a mention are, the title of most powerful Elf goes to Fingolfin, the High King of the Ñoldor. Fingolfin achieved many impressive feats, but one stands out and places him as the most powerful of them all: his legendary duel with Morgoth.
Cirdan was a great mariner among the Elves. He was born sometime in the Years of the Trees as "Nowe," but he earned the name "Cirdan," meaning "Shipright." Cirdan later became the last Elf to leave Middle-Earth.
