Throughout the movie, the Madrigals have to learn to value each other for themselves, rather than solely for their gifts. Due to this, Luisa's powers begin weakening in response to the extent of others' expectations of her as well as because of her own doubt about her worth within the family.
For instance, though the family starts to lose their gifts in the film, the magical abilities come back by the end, and the village helps to repair their magical house. Though Mirabel and the family learn valuable lessons, they're essentially back where they started by the end of the film.
In firmly establishing a connection between Abuela's love and the candle's magic, the director reveals that the miracle's later waning is not a reflection of the pain the Madrigals experience as a result of trying to live up to an impossibly perfect family image, but rather an indication that Abuela's love is now ...
There are several reasons why Mirabel may not receive a gift in the film. Some fans speculate that Mirabel lost her gift after wiping her hands on her clothes during her gift ceremony. Other theories suspect is was Abuela Alma or that the miracle never meant to give her a gift in the first place.
Do they get their magic back at the end of Encanto?
When she opens the new door to Casita, the magic returns, even though the candle is no more. Mirabel, with the uniting love of her family, empowers everyone.

Why was the house losing its magic in Encanto?
There is a point where the pressure in the family becomes too much, and towards the end of the film, Casita, who represents the family's bond, symbolically falls apart and loses its magic.
Mirabel does not possess magical gifts like the other Madrigals, rather she is the embodiment of the candle. In other words, Mirabel has the power of the miracle in the candle.
Throughout Encanto, Mirabel never needed supernatural gifts to figure out why Casita was deteriorating. Mirabel's gift is her intelligent determination, and she had that all along. While the ending reveals Mirabel as the future leader of the Madrigals, it's unclear why she never received powers.
After a young Mirabel did not get a gift on the night of her gift ceremony, Abuela worried about the family's magic and asked Bruno to see what the future showed. He had a vision with two possible outcomes: Mirabel in front of Casa Madrigal, one with the house intact and the other with the house breaking.
Like Mirabel, Abuela lacks a tangible magical ability like super hearing or seeing the future, but rather acts as the glue that holds the rest of the family together. Abuela's magic lies in how she creates an environment for the other Madrigals to flourish and use their gifts for good.
As for Mirabel not getting a door during her ceremony, it;s widely acknowledged that Mirabel's “power” is as the guardian of the family's magic itself and Mirabel being Abuela's successor, so instead of getting her own room and door, Casita's front door became Mirabel's.
As Luisa begins doubting herself, her powers are shaken as well, making her the most susceptible to the weakening of the Madrigals' magic. While all of the Madrigals ultimately lose their powers during part of Encanto, Luisa struggles with her gift first due to expectations and doubts surrounding her powers.
Not giving Mirabel a gift was Casita's way to “punish” Abuela, forcing her to reflect on what she had done to her family. At the same time, as Casita also loved the family, it didn't leave Mirabel entirely powerless, and it gave her its own magic, allowing her to communicate with Casita.
While trying to brighten the mood, Luisa held the piano for her father Agustín as he played a song, and although she was smiling, she had a nervous look on her face. Luisa's eye twitching from stress during breakfast.
Disney's Encanto, which tells the story of the magical Madrigals, doesn't have a bad guy, but one theory speculates that Dolores was the secret villain all along. Mirabel Madrigal (Stephanie Beatriz) is the only Madrigal family member in Encanto who doesn't get a magical gift.
Though Bush seemed to put the theory that Mirabel sabotaged her gift to rest, the movie may have also debunked it long ago. According to Bush, Mirabel's hand-wiping scene was just a "character specific mannerism." And the movie apparently supports that.
Bruno's pantheism was not taken lightly by the church, nor was his teaching of metempsychosis regarding the reincarnation of the soul. The Inquisition found him guilty, and he was burned alive at the stake in Rome's Campo de' Fiori in 1600.
The character appears to symbolize the stigma around mental health issues: While he is never labeled with a specific diagnosis in the film, some viewers have suggested that he has OCD or another type of neurodivergent brain function.
At first his family thinks he has gone missing and move back to Berlin, however, his father finds the entrance to the fence and his son's clothes and pieces the events together of how Bruno died. Consumed with guilt, the commandant loses his zest for life and takes it out on his subordinates in tyranny.
Lastly, there's Mirabel's door. We're led to believe that it dissolved when Mirabel was a little girl because she was denied a gift. Every other person in her family got to open their door, receive their gift, and get a gigantic magical room that's the stuff of dreams.
The Encanto theory about Mirabel also recalls how the pair have similar looks, which is evident when the film focuses on Pedro's portrait when the Casita cracks. There's enough evidence to make a case for Mirabel being the reincarnation of Pedro.
Abuela treasures the ceremony in which the future generations get their gift, and when Mirabel doesn't receive one, she becomes cold towards her, despite not overtly having a gift herself. She is also harsh on other members of the Madrigal family, but Mirabel becomes distinctively left out.
"Mirabel and [Abuela] are the only two people to be able to communicate with the Casita in the movie. This could show some sort of special relationship with the Casita and in turn, the magic in the house," they add.
After all, Mirabel was the only member of the family who could see the cracks in Casita because the damage was revealed to her in ways that none of the others could see, even with their more obvious magical gifts. It appeared that, Abuela Alma and Bruno were also aware of the threat to the Madrigal's miracle.
