Why did Darth Vader want to put Luke in carbonite?
Carbon-freezing is an industrial process that encases highly pressurized gases inside solidified carbonite. In Cloud City, Darth Vader decided to freeze Luke Skywalker in carbonite for transport to the Emperor. (As Anakin Skywalker, he'd undergone the process himself to evade Separatist life detectors.)
During the Galactic Civil War, Skywalker, now Darth Vader, intended to trap his son Luke in carbonite on Bespin. Having blackmailed Baron Administrator Lando Calrissian into letting him use Cloud City's crude industrial carbon-freezing facility, he tested the device out on Han Solo to ensure the chamber would be safe.
After fully recommitting to the dark side, Darth Vader made it his quest to seek out and kill Luke Skywalker. To do so, he wants to use Han Solo's body as bait while intending to kill the smuggler afterward.

C3PO was clearly created from some sort of kit or existing prototype since every protocol droid aside from coloring looks the same. He didn't recognize him because again, they all look the same & it was decades until he saw him again. There was no reason to believe he or R2 even existed anymore.
secondly, in Legends, R2 was given programming that actually restricted him. from sharing any information with Luke or Leia. about their parents or relation to one another. this was all part of the plan. to conceal this information from the twins.
