When the Fellowship was departing and being bestowed gifts, Galadriel paused before Gimli with empty hands, because she did not know what to give the Dwarf. Gimli doesn't ask for gold or treasure, but for a single strand of her hair to remember her beauty by. She doesn't give him one, but three.
On multiple occasions, she was asked by the Elf Fëanor for a strand of her hair. In The Silmarillion, it's explained that Fëanor was one of, if not the greatest, Elf who ever lived. There was speculation that Galadriel's hair inspired Fëanor to create three shining jewels known as the Silmarils.

Fëanor was one who wished to possess and Galadriel had perceived this darkness within his heart. Gimli, on the other hand, wishes only to love in pure devotion and so she gives him not only one strand but three, recalling the three times that Fëanor had made his request and the three times that she had refused him.
Although this relationship may have happened with Galadriel's meeting or not, it's clear Gimli's love for her expedited his ease in befriending Legolas.
It may be related to their intention to play up the discord between Boromir and the rest of the Fellowship and the mistrust Galadriel felt toward him specifically. That angle was heavily emphasized throughout the film.

Why does Boromir cry when Galadriel looks at him?
Boromir was put under great stress by his father to retrieve the Ring, and he let the Ring take control of his mind. Because of this, he is ashamed and disappointed in himself. This proves the Boromir is at his core a good person. Boromir knows what he has been thinking is wrong, and so he cries.

Thus, Galadriel's dark form in Jackson's The Lord of the Rings personified what would have occurred had the Lady of Lothlorien given in to temptation and taken the One Ring for herself. She would have succumbed to evil because the Ring was indomitable, even with her power.
Before the Company of the Ring left Lothlórien, each of its members was presented with a gift by Galadriel. Boromir was given a belt of gold which he carried in the journey until the Breaking of the Fellowship. Aragorn and Legolas are long-time companions and best friends since Legolas' father Thranduil sent him to live among the Rangers of the North. Aragorn and Legolas grew close, up to the point where Aragorn revealed his true identity to Legolas. Throughout his journeys, Aragorn and Legolas are as close as brothers.
In fact, there's only one line that Legolas says to Frodo: “And you have my bow.” Fans have noted that this isn't the case in the novels since the two characters engage in proper conversations in parts that had not been covered in Jackson's adaptation.
