Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" is based on Charles Perrault's fairy tale "La Belle au bois dormant" (The Sleeping Beauty), first published in 1697. However, the story's origins can be traced back even further. The earliest recorded version is found in Giambattista Basile's collection of Italian fairy tales from 1634.
