After T'Challa dies, Shuri loses faith in every aspect of her life. She loses faith in Bast, who she prays to at the start of the film; she later admits to Nakia that she didn't think the Ancestral Plains even existed. Shuri loses faith in her abilities.
Shuri had to physically and emotionally distance herself from the throne to begin grieving her brother and mother's passing. Only after she finally did so was Shuri ready to look towards a brighter future.
Finally, Shuri sees her mother, Ramonda, in the ancestral realm, who urges Shuri to show the world who she really is. Shuri urges Namor to yield, to spare both their people. "Vengeance has consumed us," she says. "It will not consume our people."
Similarly, Shuri is in turmoil, still struggling to process the death of her brother, whom Shuri believes she should have been able to save given her scientific gifts. In fact, the Heart-Shaped Herb she creates from the Talokan flower would have saved T'Challa's life, but Shuri didn't know of its existence.
Her travel to the Ancestral Plane took her to the ruined Citadel, where she found Killmonger sitting on the throne, much to her confusion, to which Killmonger responded that Shuri had never truly believed that the Ancestral Plane even existed, which is why he was visiting her.

Does Shuri fall in love?
The MCU has had great couples in the past, and they've told love stories within superhero films before. But ultimately, while there was clear chemistry between Shuri and Namor, it was for the best that Marvel Studios decided to do without their potential love line.

The daughter of Wakanda's Black Panther T'Chaka and his second wife Ramonda, Shuri is descended from the royal line along with her brother T'Challa. She is close with high-ranking officials Zuri and W'Kabi, as well as her uncle S'Yan. Shuri also takes a shine to her sister-in-law Storm while she was wed to T'Challa.
Why the secrecy? Shuri has been an auntie for years and never knew. But Nakia tells Shuri that she and T'Challa decided to raise the child in secret in Haiti so that the burden of the Wakandan throne didn't disrupt his childhood.
Having achieved peace with Namor and allowed herself to truly feel, for the first time, the loss of T'Challa, new Black Panther Shuri (Letitia Wright) burns her funeral garb on a beach in Haiti, symbolizing the end of her grieving process.
But in his final scene, Namor reveals to his cousin Namora that his decision came from cunning more than pride. Now that he has a treaty with Wakanda, he has an ally, a nation that will help him when he returns to wage war on the surface world. Now that's the Namor I know and love.
In the aftermath, Shuri planted the Heart-Shaped Herb and talked to M'Baku, saying she was leaving Wakanda. At the coronation, M'Baku stepped down from the Royal Talon Fighter, even though everyone believed it would be Shuri. He then announced that he challenged for the throne. He became the reigning king of Wakanda.
You may leave the theater wondering what Ramonda was going to tell Shuri. When you watch the movie a second time, it's evident Ramonda was likely trying to tell Shuri about T'Challa's secret son with Nakia, Prince T'Challa, who is finally introduced in the film's mid-credits scene.
Queen Ramonda's Death Was Necessary For Shuri's Wakanda Forever Story. After Boseman's death, Letitia Wright stepped up to assume the role of the main character for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with Shuri's grief and relationship to her Wakandan heritage and technology being explored more than any other.
Killmonger sees the quality of nobility as a weakness and that the moral compass should be bypassed whenever there is something that jeopardizes the progress of an individual's plans, something that he mocked his cousin T'Challa in front of his cousin Shuri in the Astral Dimension.
In "Black Panther," Ross gets fatally shot while protecting Nakia. T'Challa decides to bring him to Wakanda so Shuri can save his life. Not only is Ross likely the most-informed CIA agent about Wakanda, but he also owes a debt to Shuri and T'Challa for saving his life.
When Wakanda is attacked by the Cabal during the "Time Runs Out" storyline, Shuri sacrifices herself by staying behind to hold off Proxima Midnight so T'Challa can escape. Her death is later confirmed when her spirit is seen among those of the past Black Panthers.
M'Baku notes that the people of Talocan do not refer to Namor as a general or king but instead call him the same name as the Feathered Serpent God. Kukulkan is the name of a serpent deity in several Mesoamerican religions.
Costume designs have revealed that Namor's race is inspired by the ancient Aztecs. Not only that, but merchandise tied to the movie has confirmed that his kingdom is called Talocan – not Atlantis. In Aztec mythology, Tlālōcān is the name of a paradise occupied by Tlāloc, the god of rain.
A dying priest derisively called Almehen, "El Niño sin Amor", meaning "the child without love." Ch'ah Toh Almehen proceeded to take that as his name, Namor, as a warning to his enemies. This experience showed him how bad the surface world was and that he needed to protect his kind from it.
