Deriving its title from the father in Travers's story, Saving Mr. Banks depicts the author's tragic childhood in rural Queensland in 1906 and the two weeks of meetings during 1961 in Los Angeles, during which Disney attempts to obtain the film rights to her novels.
Banks, Travers Goff being the inspiration for Mr. Banks and his namesake is foreshadowed early on when it's first revealed on Travers' office door that he is a bank manager, contrary to the implication that the character is named Banks because of his love for money.
George Banks, more commonly known as "Mr. Banks", is the former secondary antagonist in the 1964 film, Mary Poppins. He is similar in character to George Darling from Peter Pan, and was inspired by P.L. Travers' own father, himself a strict, no-nonsense banker and was inspired by Walt Disney's father, Elias, as well.
In 1962, the author Pamela Travers – known to the public by the initials PL Travers – arrived in Los Angeles on a flight from London, her first-class ticket having been paid for by Walt Disney.

Why did Walt Disney want Mary Poppins?
Travers, Disney devoted two decades to bring the nanny that is "practically perfect in every way" to the silver screen. In the early 1940s, Walt Disney made his daughter Diane a promise: he would adapt her favorite 1934 children's book, British author P.L. Travers' Mary Poppins, into a big-screen masterpiece.
The Bank. Mr George Banks and, later, Michael Banks work at the fictional Dawes, Tomes, Mousely, Grubbs Fidelity Fiduciary Bank in the City. The Bank of England and Threadneedle Street in the City of London were used as locations for scenes outside the bank in Mary Poppins Returns.
Saving Mr. Banks is based on a true story. Well, it's based on a true story the way the movie Mary Poppins is based on the book Mary Poppins — which is to say loosely, and without some of the really unusual and intense juicy parts. The movie tells the story of author P.L.
Saving Mr. Banks shows that many writers use they personal experience and life and become a part of the author. It is hard for writers to let go and particularly for Travers, as she has so much invested in Mary Poppins, so much of herself in it. Her books allowed her to have some wish fulfilment.
Saving Mr. Banks alludes to and explores an interesting psychological concept called sublimation. Sublimation is a mature and resilient coping mechanism in which pathological impulses or traumatic experiences are transformed into socially acceptable actions or creations.
We realize that Mary Poppins came not to fix the children, nor was this their journey, but to fix Mr. Banks, a character, dragged down by conflicting loyalties. The wind changes and Mary Poppins must now leave the Banks children, presumably to help assist another family.
Banks, Mary Poppins calmly produces the children's restored advertisement and agrees with its requests but promises the astonished banker that she will be firm with his children. As Mr. Banks puzzles over the advertisement's return, Mary Poppins hires herself, and she convinces him it was originally his idea.

O. Henry uses foreshadowing to give the reader hints about events which will occur later in the story. Some of these hints include the setting, the facial details of Bob, Bob's description of Jimmy being true to his word, a newly-arrived man being conspicuously covered, and the second man being too tall.
In Once Upon a Time, some examples of foreshadowing include: "The house that surrounds me while I sleep is built on undermined ground" - the house mirrors white South African society that is built on a society worked and maintained by black South Africans; "the house's foundations . . .
Accuracy: Mostly true. Saving Mr. Banks does paint the father, Travers Goff, a little more positively than he actually was, but the basics — i.e. that Goff was an alcoholic, failed bank manager with an immensely romantic imagination — are all correct. Even the pear flashback toward the end has some basis in reality.
The problem is that Mr. Banks (you remember the father from the movie, right?) will never attract Mary Poppins. This was his job ad: “Required: Nanny. Firm, respectable, no-nonsense.”
Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, a cockney lamplighter and former apprentice of Bert from the original film. Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks, Jane's younger brother and father of Annabel, John, and Georgie, who is a widower now working as a part-time teller at Fidelity Fiduciary Bank and is a struggling artist.
Goff had her first role in the troupe as Anne Page in a March 1921 performance of The Merry Wives of Windsor. She decided to go by the stage name of "Pamela Lyndon Travers", taking Travers from her father's name and Pamela because she thought it a "pretty" name that "flowed" with Travers.
George Banks: Male, 40s. The father to Jane and Michael Banks, is a banker to the very fiber of his being. Demanding "precision and order" in his household, he is a pipe-and-slippers man who doesn't have much to do with his children and believes that he had the perfect upbringing by his nanny, the cruel Miss Andrew.
The awe Mary Poppins inspires is actually inspired by the characters' own imaginations. That's why she denies that they ever participated in a horse race in a magical cartoon universe, when Michael reminds her that this happened—she's trying to make Michael look to his own imagination for amazement, not to magic.
Though the state of Mary and Bert's relationship has always been a little fuzzy, a popular theory has recently resurfaced ahead of Mary Poppins Returns explaining their interesting bond: Mary Poppins (played by Julie Andrews in the original and Emily Blunt in the sequel) was actually Bert's nanny when he was a kid.
George heads down to the bank to meet his fate. Predictably, he gets fired. The bank board blames him for the run on the bank that happened earlier in the day. Dawes Jr.
