Because of his understanding of time travel, the theory states, Kang is fearful that Iron Man could take him down. It is possible that He Who Remains set up the flow of time in a way that Tony Stark died while fighting Thanos, giving Kang the opportunity time to invade.
He is so powerful, and with the brains and technical know-how to match, Kang could wreak multiversal havoc whenever he pleases. One of the main reasons Kang is a much larger threat than Thanos ever could be is because of his ability to see time to know the future, past, and present all at once.
Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man might be responsible for the creation of Kang in the MCU. Despite being the greatest hero of the MCU, it is a known fact that Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man was, directly and indirectly, responsible for the creation of a plethora of MCU villains, including Ultron, Zemo, Mysterio, etc.

Iron Man Could Have Met Kang When Discovering Time Travel
Even though there was no mention of Kang the Conqueror during Avengers: Endgame, it's possible that it was this meddling with the time stream that brought Tony Stark and Kang face-to-face with each other.
As a time traveler from the 31st century, Kang has access to technology and weaponry far beyond anything that 21st century Earth is capable of producing. With the resources at his disposal, Kang possesses mastery over time and space, as well as the power to battle armies single-handedly.
