During the initial research for the first film, John Lasseter met with General Motors designers to discuss the new Chevrolet Corvette design. However, Lightning McQueen's appearance is not attributed to any single car model: He's the new rookie, he's kinda sexy, he's fast, he's different.So he's invented.
While McQueen is not modeled directly after a specific make and model, the artists mixed and matched elements of the Chevrolet Corvette C6 and Corvette C1.
Using decals instead of real headlights on Lightning McQueen can also be a nod to the racing culture. In some race car designs, headlights are replaced with decals or stickers to save weight and improve aerodynamics. This subtle detail in McQueen's design further solidifies his connection to the racing world.
What would Lightning McQueen look like as a real car?
Apparently, the animators at Pixar drew influences from many sources to create McQueen's final design. However, the two major car models he is based on are – the Chevrolet Corvette C1 (produced between 1953-1962) and the Chevrolet Corvette C6 (produced between 2004-2013).
The Sally Special. A one-of-a-kind Porsche 911 designed in collaboration with Pixar as a tribute to none other than the iconic Sally Carrera of the studio's “Cars” franchise. That's right. A car.
Chick is a 1979 Shyster Cremlin, a fictional car based on and designed after a 1986 Buick Grand National (Regal GNX). Chick is painted green, with the number 86 painted on his doors, and has yellow rims. He also has a grille, which serves as a mustache.
It takes until sunset to get it right. McQueen's top speed is gauged at 198 mph, which is still slower than Storm. He decides to head to Thunder Hollow which has a dirt track, but when Luigi gets worried about the press finding him there, Mack assures him he can give Lightning a disguise.
How Old is Lightning McQueen? In the original Cars movie, McQueen is in his early-to-mid twenties, and reaches the apex of his career in his late thirties in Cars 2, before approaching obsolescence and retirement in his early forties through Cars 3.
Back in Radiator Springs, it is revealed that Lightning's Allinol supply was switched with Fillmore's organic fuel by Sarge prior to the start of the World Grand Prix, thereby protecting Lightning from danger during the race in London.
Speed wise, McQueen could never hope to be a fast as Storm. However, that doesn't mean he couldn't have beaten him at least once or twice. In one race of the montage - McQueen comes a close second to Storm which heavily implies that Lightning has the ability to temporarily overtake Storm at speed via drafting.
Lighting McQueen is modeled after the Chevrolet Corvette C1 and the Chevrolet Corvette C6. However, if you were to ask McQueen himself, he would probably say something along the lines of a "2006 Custom-Built Piston Cup Racing stock car."
We previously thought that character was a pure electric vehicle, but a second video reveals that Storm is actually a hybrid described as being "part of the next generation of high-tech racers."
It is implied that Doc died before the events of Cars 2, and in Cars 3 he appears in flashback sequences. Doc is voiced by Paul Newman in Cars, Cars 3 (the latter via archive audio recordings) and Cars: the Video Game, and Corey Burton in all other media.
Due to this, it's explained in the world of "Cars" that Doc died before the events of 2011's "Cars 2." The race car remains as beloved and influential as the actor voicing him, though, with the Piston Cup Championship being renamed the Hudson Hornet Memorial Piston after Doc.
