Kang the Conqueror was exiled to the MCU Quantum Realm by his own variants in the Council of Kangs due to his attempts to eradicate them and become the sole Kang in the multiverse.
Summary. Kang's death in Quantumania was not caused by ants, but rather by a series of events that weakened him and allowed the ants to overpower him. Kang's death may have actually benefited the MCU, as Jonathan Majors' personal issues led to his firing from Marvel.
Janet believes him until she touches the Time Crystal in the temporal gateway core she repaired and she's flooded with visions of Kang's countless genocides. Upon finding this out, Janet sabotages the machine, causing Kang to be stuck in the Quantum Realm with a maniacal desperation to escape.
The Council of Kangs, having deemed Kang too dangerous, chose to banish him into the Quantum Realm in an attempt to prevent a new war, since Kang was still seeking to conquer the Multiverse.
However, their adventure gave Kang the insight he needed to determine that Conan was far too dangerous to be left alive, not to mention the impetus to take action against the perceived threat at hand.

Why does Kang want to destroy everything?
Kang was a villain that surpassed the rules of time and space and was a conqueror of all worlds thanks to his advanced technology. For Kang, his mission was to visit many points in time and conquer them in hopes of amassing an army built over ages to take over the world.
As Quantumania continues, Kang confirms he was exiled to the Quantum Realm by none other than himself - variants of Kang whom the film's Conqueror claims feared him and chose to imprison him in the subatomic universe outside of time and space.
Kang isn't physically stronger than Thanos, and if the two were to square up in a one-vs-one fight then the Titan would arguably win. However, Kang's knowledge of the multiverse means that would quite literally be several steps ahead of Thanos at all times. As a result, Kang wins this battle.
He warns Scott Lang that he's the only one who can "stop what's coming," e.g. the other Kang variants. So might he have been seeking to become the one true Kang, killing all the other versions of himself to stop them from messing with the multiverse and restoring a single timeline where he's in charge?
Prior to his appearance in Quantumania, though, Majors made his MCU debut in the Season 1 finale of Loki, playing one (of many) variants of his villain Kang the Conqueror named He Who Remains.
He also ensures that some of the technology Kang will need gets invented (Tony's time travel machine). As he gamed this particular fight over and over, maybe more than 15 million times, He Who Remains chose this specific set of events. He caused Heimdall, Loki, Gamora, Black Widow, and Iron Man to die.
In Marvel Comics, the most dangerous version of Kang is none other than Immortus. Introduced in Avengers #10, Immortus represents a later point in Kang's timeline. After years of orchestrating all sorts of time travel shenanigans, the 31st-century time traveler rebranded himself as Immortus.
Disabling his suit could potentially strip him of his technological powers and weaken him. Ant-Man has already shown the ability to sabotage technologically-advanced suits like he did with Falcon and Iron Man in previous movies. This could be a key advantage in defeating Kang.
Summary. The Council of Kangs, introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is likely connected to Loki season 2 and will play a key role in upcoming crossover events. The death of He Who Remains in Loki season 1 triggered chaos in the multiverse, leading to the creation of the Council of Kangs.
Eventually, Captain America defeats Kang before Ravonna uses his time crystal to regress him to an infant. In the post-credits, an elderly Kang joins Ravonna, Cosmo the Spacedog, Man-Thing, and the Supreme Intelligence in warning Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Iron Man of a new threat.
This storyline saw Kang try and rewrite time in his own image but was tempted into battle with his old enemy Khonshu. It's left up to Moon Knight, Khonshu's avatar, to fix time and defeat Kang the Conqueror, which he does very effectively.
According to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania screenwriter Jeff Loveness, he describes Kang the Conqueror as a "lonely character" who lives in the Quantum Realm and develops the ability to become a multi-dimensional supervillain in Phase 5 of the MCU.
Summary. Kang the Conqueror has seemingly already killed many Avengers, including Thor, in the MCU, as referenced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
If Marvel wants to raise the stakes after Thanos and Kang, there is no better way to bring Annihilus. Like Thanos, Annihilus is a cosmic threat who is more than willing to destroy the universe in his quest for control.
