Finnick Odair's death represents the unfairness of life and war. Even though Finnick was a favorite of the Capitol, he still ended up being tortured and killed by them. The evil of President Snow is made clear by his manipulation and targeting of even those he favored.
Finnick was the property of the Capitol, especially as a victor, and they brought him up to hate and kill people from other Districts. This means that his death was the biggest way he could have rebelled.
Finnick, like many of the tributes, was trying to protect Katniss and Peeta until they could escape. Katniss however wanted to kill Finnick, because she didn't want to befriend anyone, knowing she wanted Peeta to win the Games. However, Finnick does something that makes Katniss unable to kill him.
After winning the games, Finnick was forced into prostitution by President Snow. He was blackmailed into going out with wealthy citizens of the Capitol for the safety of his loved ones, such as his District 4 sweetheart and fellow victor Annie Cresta (Stef Dawson).

Why does Mags kiss Finnick?
Chia Mags kisses Finnick on the mouth to briefly let him know that this is the last time she will see him. It's her way of saying "Goodbye" but in a more affectionate way.
After winning the games, Snow forced Finnick into prostitution and sold his body to Capitol residents to gain their trust. Finnick only agreed to take part because Snow threatened to torture his loved ones. Even though he bedded several women throughout his time as a victor, Finnick's love for Annie remained true.
Finnick was willing to give up Mags to save Peeta because he needed to, to convince Katniss they were on the same side. He receives a large cut in his leg when he was trying to save Peeta. During the events of Mockingjay, Finnick shows concern for Peeta, and goes out of his way to save Peeta's life again.
In the 75th Hunger Games, Finnick Odair from District 4 had a token that was a gold bangle with a flame pattern. This token was first given to Haymitch Abernathy from Effie Trinket as a sign of them being a team. Haymitch gave it to Finnick to tell Katniss to make him an ally, as he could later help her in the games.
The female Morphling, however, appears almost coincidentally, and Peeta even mentions that they don't know her real name. Given that she is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Peeta, it's safe to assume that the Morphling was committed to the rebel cause.
Mags, an eighty-year-old woman, volunteered for the 75th Hunger Games in the place of Annie Cresta, becoming a tribute alongside Finnick Odair, whom she mentored in the 65th Hunger Games and (according to the book and film) practically raised.
When he first meets her, he calls out her name as if they already know each other, but in reality, he wants to get to know her before they get into the arena and become allies. LAST: "Katniss!" In a full-circle moment, Finnick's last line is also Katniss's name.
Finnick learned many secrets, including that Snow, in his rise to power, poisoned his adversaries but to divert suspicion often drank from the same poisoned cup followed by an antidote that only Snow used. Segments of the propo of Katniss and Finnick are aired.
Peeta's Family Was Killed When President Snow Bombed District 12. After Katniss and Peeta won the Hunger Games, they each received a house in Victor's Village. Katniss' mother and Prim immediately moved from their home in the Seam, but Peeta's family stayed at the bakery—so District 12's boy tribute lived alone.
That leaves the tributes from 1,2, herself, and the District 9 female. After this, there was an earthquake that shook the arena, making the arena flood. Since Annie was from District 4 and could swim well, the other tributes drowned, leaving her the victor. As said previously, she was mentored by Finnick.
Why do you think Johanna dislikes Katniss so much?
In the case of Johanna, they each hated each other because that was what the Capitol had taught them to do. They were from competing Districts, and the idea of the Games was to keep the lesser citizens of Panem distrustful of one another and unwilling to form alliances (or raise arms in war).
The rules for the second Quarter Quell stipulated that double the number of tributes were to be reaped from the districts for the Games. At the age of 16, Haymitch was reaped as one of District 12's two male tributes for the 50th Hunger Games alongside Maysilee Donner and another female tribute.
Before he rescued Peeta, Katniss saw Finnick as a threat and someone she will eventually have to kill. However, she admits she will never be able to kill him because he saved Peeta. She won't be able to look past the debt she owes him for saving Peeta's life.
Katniss here's this and understands that even though she may not love Peeta (then) that it's one less person who has to die. (At least that's what I have always thought.) Katniss realizes that if she pretends to be in love with Peeta people will want the capitol to let them survive.
At an unknown point in time years before the 74th Hunger Games, she was personally fired by Snow, the stated reason being due to her being too surgically enhanced.
The following year after Lucy Gray Baird's victory, another female tribute emerged as the Hunger Games winner. Mags Flanagan became the first victor from District 4, living off of nuts and her survival skills by creating fishhooks. She was also the first victor to move to Victor's Village before serving as a mentor.
As a Career tribute, Finnick won the 65th Hunger Games at the age of 14, where he was mentored by the previous District 4 victor, Mags. During the 74th Hunger Games, he served as mentor alongside Mags for District 4, as revealed in Mockingjay when he became the expert on Peeta's memories of his two times in the arena.
On his wrist, Finnick is wearing the same gold band with flames that Haymitch was wearing the first morning of training. She decides Haymitch gave him the band as a sign to Katniss and Peeta that they are to trust Finnick.
