Tony Stark and Nebula, the only survivors of the Snap on Titan, resorted to the Benatar in hopes of returning to Earth and reuniting with the Avengers. The Benatar only had a few supplies left since Stark and Nebula had been on the ship for more than twenty days.
After Thanos' (Josh Brolin) snap in Avengers: Infinity War, the pair had to find a way to get off of Titan. For three weeks, they were floating in space, giving time for Tony Stark and Nebula to spend time together, which was, apparently, mostly adlibbed.
When he went to space, he was stuck there for 20 days alone with Nebula because of Thanos. Josh Brolin's Thanos had snapped his fingers in Infinity War. Hence, everyone who was there along with Tony, vanished in the end; except for Nebula. But if you think it was the first time Iron Man went to space, you are wrong.
Like Gamora, Thanos had stolen her as a child. In his efforts to make Nebula a more deadly weapon he pitted his “daughters” against one another in training. Every time Gamora won Thanos “would replace a piece” of Nebula with machinery. Yet, the horrific physical abuse wasn't even the worst of it for Nebula.
The crucial detail in this situation is that Tony and Nebula's ship, the Benatar, has a homing beacon on board. Tony used his Iron Man helmet to record messages in an effort to get in touch with Pepper Potts.

On Vormir, when Thanos was tasked with sacrificing Gamora to acquire the Soul Stone, he told her, “I ignored my destiny once. I cannot do that again. Even for you.” So, when exactly did he ignore his destiny before this? Well, it was on his home planet of Titan.
Why was Iron Man mad at Captain America in Endgame?
During Tony's first conversation with Captain America since 2015's "Civil War," Tony gets very emotional and gets mad at Steve Rogers. He puts some blame on him for running away and not wanting to register as a superhero with the government to possibly prevent the Thanos snap in "Infinity War" from happening.
