As a child, he was frail and unhealthy due to his overactive mutant immune system and was neglected by his mother, who had been institutionalized following the death of her first son, John Jr., in 1897.
Meanwhile, the Adamantium was constantly poisoning his insides; Logan's healing factor initially kept the metal's toxicity in check but, as it gradually failed, the poison began overwhelming his system and killing him. Adamantium poisoning may also have turned into the cause of his healing factor's increasing failure.
In the movie, it is implied that the adamantium coating on Wolverine's skeleton, which makes him nearly indestructible, also has a negative effect on his body over time. The metal leeches into his body, weakening him and causing him to age at a normal rate.
Wolverine was born a mutant, and one of his superhuman abilities that manifested from his mutation was a healing factor. Logan's body repairs itself rapidly after he suffers an injury, and it also constantly works to keep Logan perpetually healthy.
If a human body is exposed to adamantium, death is imminent in a few minutes. Logan had an entire skeleton made out of pure adamantium. The metal kept poisoning his body and his healing factor kept fighting it, keeping the poison at bay.
However, they are not identical. Deadpool has the superior healing factor, significantly. Professor X once stated that Wolverine could, most likely, be killed if he was decapitated. Deadpool can still move his body around normally even with a decapitated head.

The character of Wolverine (aka “Logan”) is always a unique one to analyze, particularly due to the nature of his mutant powers. He possesses a healing factor, which allows him to overcome and heal from any injury, no matter how severe. This has essentially made him immortal.
Wolverine's role in Deadpool 3 can be attributed to a device in the MCU that allows superheroes to move around timelines. It is due to the device Wolverine is alive in this movie while also staying dead in Logan.
Why were no mutants being born? You can certainly piece together the truth from what's in the film: the genetically modified corn syrup crops that Logan is shown earlier in the film have been altered – possibly by Zander Rice – to supress the mutant gene.
According to Logan's place in the timeline, this went on for some time, until Xavier, in his old age, was taken off guard by a debilitating, degenerative brain disease that caused intense seizures. But while a seizure would normally only affect the person suffering from them, Xavier's was dangerous on a larger scale.

That is, until she learned the one truth known by every other person who thought they could control the Wolverine: if something can't be killed, definitely don't bring it BACK to life. Apparently, Persephone's power worked to reanimate Logan's corpse and consciousness to use him as a tool.
To have the movie end with his sacrifice after giving in to that violence one last time was a fitting end to the character, and to have him finally die fighting for his legacy was the perfect end for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
Selene is the oldest known human mutant. Functionally immortal, her millennia-long life is attributed to her ability to drain the life essence from other beings to extend her own existence indefinitely. Her name derives from the ancient lunar goddess Selene, daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia.
Unlike Wolverine, whose wounds sometimes cause excruciating pain as they heal depending on the severity, Deadpool has some degree of pain insensitivity. Deadpool is effectively immortal, although he has died several times. He is still alive 800 years in the future when the new X-Force encounters him.

Deadpool has a well-earned reputation in Marvel Comics as having the grossest healing factor ever. In fact, Deadpool's 'healing factor' isn't one at all, it's a 'dying factor', which makes the entire process even more unpleasant. Not to mention the obviously unsettling visual of seeing Deadpool regrow/reattach a limb.
Wolverine's healing factor makes him capable of surviving without his legs or even his head attached to his body. Wolverine's healing factor was not strong enough in the end to defend Wolverine from having himself be obliterated by Magneto who tears the adamantium from his body.
