Mel tried to play cool and put all the blame to Frank, but Tony didn't fall for this and shot him in the gut. Desperate, Mel tried to negotiate for his life but Tony shot him in the chest killing him.
Tony, riddled with guilt, has Gina taken back to his mansion. In revenge for Tony's failure to kill the journalist, who has now exposed Sosa and his partners to the world as drug lords, Sosa sends a Latino mercenary hit squad (the size of a large platoon), to Tony's mansion to kill him that evening.
