Although he couldn't free Shmi, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones reveals that she was sold to Cliegg Lars sometime after The Phantom Menace and freed. What the film didn't reveal, however, was that Qui-Gon Jinn contributed to Shmi's freedom.
Though Pi-Lippa had planned to free Shmi, she'd died before she could, and Shmi instead became the property of one of Pi-Lippa's relatives, who did not want to free her. Shmi and Anakin arrive on Tatooine to serve Gardulla the Hutt.
After being freed, she could leave Tatooine with Anakin, or remain behind. Without the chains of slavery binding her, Shmi would definitely want to leave with her young son. Of course, Jedi training would prevent her from going everywhere with Anakin.

Had Qui-Gon lived to gradually change the Jedi Order for the better, it would be far more difficult for Anakin Skywalker to lose his faith in them, as a balanced Jedi Order removes much of the appeal of the dark side and the Sith Order.

Despite the recent death of Dooku's apprentice Qui-Gon Jinn at the hands of Darth Maul, Darth Sidious found it surprisingly easy to convince Dooku to ally with the Sith. After seventy years in the Jedi Order, Dooku abandoned his friends and the Jedi way for the dark side of the Force.
Darth Sidious, was in the earliest stages of his plan to take over the galaxy, and he was afraid a certain Jedi might get in his way. Interestingly, however, that Jedi wasn't Yoda or Master Windu, but instead Qui-Gon Jinn.
Master Qui-Gon Jinn's words echo in Vader's mind. There's no anger, nor hatred in this memory – Vader simply recalls one of the first lessons the Jedi Master slyly gave to young Anakin Skywalker.
What would happen if Anakin was trained by Qui-Gon?
It's obviously speculation, but I'm going to say that Qui-Gon would have managed to keep Anakin from falling to the Dark Side. Anakin's core problem was that he wasn't a good fit for the Jedi Code. Anakin was a very passionate person, and he wasn't able to suppress his emotions and remain detached.
After her husband Cliegg Lars died, he was buried next to her. Both of their headstones were later presumed to have been removed by her stepson, Owen Lars and stepdaughter Beru Lars supposedly to protect Shmi's grandson Luke from being discovered.
In The Phantom Menace, when Qui-Gon Jinn meets tiny Anakin Skywalker and his mother, he goes on about how the Force is like, crazy strong with Anakin or whatever, and then asks his mother about Anakin's dad. Shmi Skywalker is pretty clear in her answer: There isn't a father. She was impregnated by the Force.
A decade before the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Watto's gambling habit left him to be essentially destitute, forcing the Toydarian to sell Shmi. The path to her freedom started when a moisture farmer named Cliegg Lars met and fell in love with her.
According to the junior novelization of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, the Tusken Raiders took Shmi deliberately in order to goad the colonists into pursuing them, so they could launch a series of deadly traps. It was only when they had accomplished that fearful goal that they began torturing Shmi.
The 2009 novel A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker written by Ryder Windham depicts Luke's early life. In the novel, Luke overhears his Aunt Beru mention Shmi, which leads to Beru explaining that Shmi is his grandmother, and that she's buried somewhere on Tatooine.
Qui-Gon was Dooku's apprentice. Dooku loved Qui-Gon like a son due to their many similarities; both were individualists, idealists, and both had knowledge of the Force that was unique.
The Council, however, felt Anakin's future seemed clouded and uncertain, and deemed the boy too old to begin training and dangerously full of fear and anger. They refused to allow Qui-Gon to train Anakin, but the Jedi Master nevertheless kept the boy as his ward as he returned to Naboo.
The late Master's legacy suggests that he may have actually been a Sith working against the Jedi Order all along, successfully orchestrating the downfall of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire.
Because Maul punched him with the hilt of his saber and then stabs him faster than Qui-Gon can pull back his blade. So Qui-Gon lost because Maul was physically stronger and quicker than him. Qui-Gon is skilled but not a prodigy. And he's quickly worn down by Maul in both their encounters.
Though Yoda and Qui-Gon respected each other, they were often at odds due to their differing beliefs; Yoda looked to the future while Qui-Gon lived in the moment.
Summary. Palpatine's true source of power comes from his intense hatred for everyone in the galaxy, which only fuels his strength. Not only that, but the more people hate Palpatine, the stronger he becomes as well, making inspiring hatred a crucial part of increasing his strength.
Katri was a Mirialan Jedi Master and member of the Jedi Order's Jedi High Council. Between 68 BBY and 42 BBY, she was killed by a group of security guards on Raxus Secundus, and her death was investigated by Jedi Masters Mace Windu and Dooku.
What happened to Qui-Gon's lightsaber after he died?
After Jinn was mortally wounded, Obi-Wan Kenobi used it to defeat Darth Maul. The weapon would become the temporary lightsaber of Kenobi until 28 BBY when he constructed a second lightsaber identical to his first one that had been lost in the duel with Maul.
Jinn's former master, Count Dooku, had been considered to attend the funeral but had declined the invitation, claiming he would not be "pleasant company".
