One of the best parts about their friendship is that they were opposites. Marlin was passive-aggressive and pessimistic, while Dory was optimistic. Dory had every reason to be as down-in-the-dumps but she only focused on the good. While the two were on their way to Sydney, they ended up getting lost and needing help.
Marlin learns to trust others throughout his journey, especially when he is in the belly of the whale with Dory. This is a turning point because Marlin learns to trust. This is evident when he lets Nemo assist Dory in escaping her captors.
The companionship that emerges is completely genuine. Nonetheless, Dory and Marlin's relationship is a complicated and interesting one. Some view Dory as Marlin's companion and speculate that the two are actually lovers.
Nemo. Dory has a motherly relationship with Nemo. When the two met, she was relieved to find someone with kindness, and offered to help him look for his father, although she didn't remember she was looking for him too.
She is able to put Marlin first despite his insensitivity to her feelings because she genuinely cares about helping, just as a hero would. Dory's positive outlook on life and trust in those around her is the only thing that got the two of them through the journey to find Nemo.
There, they find Nemo, apparently dead (Nemo was actually faking it in an attempt to escape). Saddened, Marlin leaves for home, leaving Dory behind despite her claims that her memory is better with him.
Dory suffers from severe short-term memory loss, but a lot of what she goes through can be adapted to other contexts, such as the world, or ocean, of ADHD. Dory has trouble with multi-step directions, is easily distracted, and is very impulsive.
On coral reefs, “Dory,” the small vibrant blue fish with black stripes and a yellow tail, is known by several other names: Hippo Tang, Royal Blue Tang, Regal Tang, Palette Surgeonfish and by the scientific name Paracanthurus hepatus.
He and his memory-challenged new friend Dory discover the dentist's lost goggles and Dory reveals she is able to read the address printed on them. This gives Marlin his first clue about how to find Nemo, and he officially enters the “adventure world” of the quest, in which he sets out across the ocean to rescue Nemo.
Nemo is an Ocellaris Clownfish that generally stays small and requires a minimum tank size of only 20 gallons. In order for the larger Dory to join Nemo, the tank must be a minimum of 125 gallons.
Every time Marlin feels like giving up Dory says to him, “Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.” DORY: When life gets you down, you know what you got to (gotta) do? MARLIN: I don't want to know what you got to (gotta) do.
During the movie Finding Nemo, Marlin is transitioning into a female clownfish. Clownfish are protandrous hermaphrodites, all individuals are born male and then transition into a female at some point in their life.
It's quite obvious that Dory has anterograde amnesia, which is the inability to form new memories. I also see many of the signs of ADHD within the character.
Marlin is Nemo's father, who is careful, meticulous, and sometimes too jumpy and anxious for his son's liking. He named Nemo's smaller fin, his lucky fin, which happened when Marlin found Nemo's egg cracked after the barracuda attack.
Marlin proves to be emotionally disabled from the traumatic loss of his wife, and eggs. “Like many single parents who have survived a tragedy, Marlin turns neurotically overprotective of his son (Germain, 2003)”. Marlin helps represent the struggle with chronic anxiety, and the effect it has on relationships.
He was especially paranoid and neurotic about any potential danger that could occur to Nemo, and as such, rarely left Nemo alone due to the traumatic experience of losing the rest of his family to a barracuda attack, and not wanting the same thing to happen to Nemo.
In the movie, Dory is persistent to help Marlin even though Marlin thinks she is beginning to become a nonsense. After a while Marlin starts protecting Dory because he starts caring about her like a family member and not like a friend.
That's right, we're talking about the opening scene in the movie, where a giant barracuda attacks the home of Nemo's dad, Marlin, and ends up eating Nemo's mom and all of his future brothers and sisters. It's heartbreaking, tragic and a reminder to why Marlin is so protective over his only son, Nemo.
His family, including his wife and children, had been brutally killed by the British following the suppression of the 1857 Indian Mutiny. The loss of his loved ones, whom he mourned until the end of his life, prompted Nemo to reject human civilisation and retreat into the underwater kingdom.
“Finding Nemo” would have ended very differently if it reflected the true lives of clownfish. That's because Nemo's dad would have turned into a female before he returned from his journey across the ocean, scientists have revealed.
