Great film, but not for kids under 13. I recommend this film to everyone who loves slightly disturbing films and TV shows like me but for anyone under the age of 13 you really should not watch it. It's very gory and contains adult language.
I thought it would be scarier although. There was barely any violence and I was kind of disappointed. They did a good job of portraying pennywise however from reading the book I expected him to be more dark. He looked like a regular circus clown.

It relied almost entirely on jump scares. At first, they sort of worked and made me at least flinch a little. But by the end, almost all of Pennywise's appearances could be seen coming a mile away and the film became more cartoonish than frightening.
In my opinion, the new Pennywise is a lot scarier. There are major music differences between the two films as well. The old version specifically use music so it is easy to predict when something will jump out on the screen. It is meant to make the moment suspenseful, but it comes off as cheesy.

While the movie is given credit for including a gay character, he's largely made fun of and glossed over as an accessory to the Barbies. With a lack of queer people in the "real world" of this movie, families with two queer dads seeing this movie only have Allan – a character largely joked about – as a portrayal.
