Parents need to know that Insidious is one of the most terrifying scary horror movies in some time, and it's not recommended for younger teens (or anyone without a high tolerance for "jump" scenes).

It is a creepy and also pretty scary movie. In this movie there was an exorcism scene where it can be really scary to those who are under 12. There are no inappropriate scenes however the movie can be disturbing to some people because they talk about suicide,ghosts,etc.
11-13 year olds may be better equipped to navigate the scary movie scene on some level but each child is different. If your child watches something that they say is not scary to them but then starts coming to you at night wanting to sleep closer to you or is having nightmares let their behavior speak for them.

If they are around 12 to 13 I'd say don't let them watch it yet until they're maybe 14 or at least have a basic understanding of what movie they are getting into and that while some parts of the conjuring universe was inspired by real life events, none of it is real.
In addition, the first Insidious movie has a whopping 24 jump scares. There are many reasons to feel these movies are some of the scariest, from the plausible storyline of out-of-body experiences to the from-start-to-finish terror, but it's the jump scares that really set this franchise apart.
It's not going to win any Oscar's or leave you gasping in awe. However, it's certainly not a terrible as some of the reviews suggest. It holds your attention and has some great jump scares. On the negative side, I'm a huge fan of the insidious movies, but this just doesn't feel like it belongs with the others.
The movie has a few really good scares of course but overall the first movie was a lot creepier and more disturbing. In fact, you happen to know what is going on if you have seen the first movie and that's why you aren't that shocked or surprised anymore.
The Conjuring may have had a higher creative peak, but the Insidious franchise has been more consistently compelling over the course of its various installments. Every entry is compelling for one reason or another, and they all tie together much more cleanly than the much more sprawling Conjuring universe.
Due to the graphic and intense nature of the movie, it may not be suitable for children under 12 or 13. While some children may be able to handle the content of the movie, it is ultimately up to the parents or guardians to decide whether their child can handle the content.
