Azog began working with Sauron in Dol Guldur when the Dark Lord began to regain his power in the abandoned fortress. Azog was promised Thorin's head if he would help prepare and then lead Sauron's armies. He gathered Hunter Orcs and Wargs from Gundabad to participate in his hunt for the Dwarf.
Orcs were the primary soldiers of both Dark Lords' armies, and their most common servants. Invented by Morgoth during the Years of the Trees of the First Age, they served him and later his successor, Sauron, in their aims to dominate Middle-earth.
Azog was an Orc-lord of the Third Age who commanded the tribes of Moria until his death in TA 2799. He was responsible for the death of the Dwarven King Thrór.
Smaug is aware of the return of Sauron, and was apparently intent on joining forces with him (although there was some amount of confusion as to whether the dragon's motives for an alliance with Sauron were).
Azog was an Orc-chieftain of Moria, who started the War of the Dwarves and Orcs when he slew Thrór. He was himself slain by Dáin II Ironfoot in the Battle of Azanulbizar, and was succeeded by his son Bolg.
After the battle, Thráin wanted to enter and reclaim Moria, the ancestral home of Durin's folk. However, due to their losses, the other Houses not willing to participate, and since Dáin had seen Durin's Bane beyond the East-gate, Thráin refrained from entering.
Azog, also known as the Defiler or the Pale Orc, was one of Sauron's greatest servants (i.e. the Dark Lord's champion) and the self-proclaimed Orc-king of Moria.
Peter Jackson certainly makes the assertion in the theatrical and extended editions of the Hobbit movies that Smaug and Sauron are not only well aware of each other, but are planning to ally with each other. Smaug even seems to have detailed knowledge of Sauron's coming plans.
Secondly, Balrogs were the epitome of malice and power while Sauron only ever won one of three fights he ever had. Sauron was the great deceiver. His power lies in planning, subterfuge, manipulation, and corruption.
Bolg is the spawn of Azog. They have similar physical feats and are ruffle the same height so it's hard to tell but I'm gonna say Azog wins this just because he seems more mighty and is the most infamous Orc and probably the most powerful because he is there leader.
Azog, the Defiler was a Gundabad orc who acted as the chieftain of the Morian orcs. He was considered the strongest orc to ever walk Middle-Earth and the greatest menace towards the dwarven race. After Smaug had driven them out of Erebor, King Thror led his people back to Moria where Azog reigned as its new lord.
Mordor Orcs refer to the Orcs that Sauron bred for his own army. The first Dark Lord Melkor took hostage some Elves from Cuiviénen. He tortured them, beat them, and broke their bodies into the first deformed and twisted beings known as Orcs. Tolkien confirmed that female Orcs did exist.
They served Sauron out of fear, but they also savored the chance to kill and feast on the other beings in Middle-earth. Orcs were vicious fighters, but they had one noticeable flaw. They absolutely despised sunlight. As servants of evil, that makes sense, but there's actually a much more lore-centric reason.
Since their will was not bound to Sauron now, it is more likely that they ran away in terror and scattered across Middle-earth. After Sauron's defeat, Aragorn and his army killed the remaining Orcs in Mordor.
Smaug could easily have cut through the armies of Mordor, and delayed the invasion of Middle-earth by years. So it wasn't in Sauron's interest to take on the dragon, but that doesn't mean he saw it as a lost cause, as he fully planned on creating an alliance.
"She's helped to save him," Clark said. "She's also inspired him, and she'll always know that." After Galadriel makes it clear to Halbrand that she knows he is Sauron, he makes a pitch for her to join him. Halbrand says Galadriel can become his queen, and that she will bind him to light while he will bind her to power.
So, in terms of "angelic rankings," they were on the same level, which meant that Sauron had no authority to commander the Balrog. As a Valar, Morgoth led a whole slew of Balrogs in the First Age, but because Sauron was only a Maia, the Balrog would have had no loyalty to him.
Because Sauron underestimated the will of the dwarves and the intelligence of the elves. The dwarves of Middle-Earth were notoriously strong willed, able to resist corruption and stay true to their purpose. Sauron had no means by which to corrupt them regardless of how he tried.
Later, in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Azog rides her when meeting up with Bolg, and again leading his armies towards the Lonely Mountain. She is killed in the final battle of the city of Dale and the Lonely Mountain in the extended edition of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
Sauron was once a wise Maia who valued order but was corrupted by Morgoth and became his first lieutenant wishing to assist Morgoth in order to create the world he saw fit.
Gimli didn't know about Moria's fate because there had been no communication between Erebor and Moria for 25 years, and the Dwarves were hopeful and did not want to accept failure until there was certain news.
Combining the poor communication between Erebor and Moria with the Dwarves' extended lifespans, Gimli might not have known about the fall of Moria simply because Erebor had not grown too worried about the lack of information yet.
Thorin's nephews Fíli and Kíli are killed, and Thorin is mortally injured; he dies shortly afterwards. The title of King under the Mountain passes to Dáin.
